Rehearsals are underway for High School Musical Jr.

Voting on a Heilicher Flag

The entire school has been learning about voting rights in connection to Martin Luther King Jr. Day and looking ahead to the election later this year. Inspired by the recent adoption of a new state flag for Minnesota, each class designed and proposed a Heilicher flag. The flag designs were displayed around the school and shared via a slideshow. Then students had the opportunity to vote by filling out a ballot and putting it in a special ballot box.

Students in grades 4 and up also participated in a simulation where some students faced barriers to voting to help them learn about historic and current barriers to voting in our country. Every student eventually got to vote, and the winning design is pictured above. We look forward to proudly displaying our new flag!

Footwear for P.E.

This is a reminder that appropriate footwear is required for Physical Education class every day. It is Heilicher’s priority to provide students with a safe learning environment, so all students must have proper footwear for P.E. to avoid injuries. Appropriate footwear includes sneakers or other athletic shoes. Uggs, Crocs, sandals, and boots are not acceptable shoes for P.E.

Students may be excluded from some activities — and/or will not receive their full daily participation points — if they are not wearing proper footwear in P.E. class. Please feel free to contact Mr. Metzger if you have any questions.
