Greetings Members
Greetings Fellow Chinookers,

I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday Season and are ready to start the New Year with a fresh and exciting anticipation of great things to come. Last year was a bit difficult for me as I continued to care for my 93 yr. old mother who suffers from dementia and requires 24 hr. care. But this year things are looking up already, as my siblings and their children are now pitching in to help. So, for me this year is already looking good.

On another note, I am so happy that we will be having an annual rally at the Mountain Valley RV Resort in Heber City UT, this September. Thank you, Jan. I have made my reservation already! I want to encourage ALL OF YOU to do so immediately. This is a beautiful resort, and you don't want to miss it.

Looking forward to many more adventures with you.

Happy Trails,
Mary Esther Chavarela, President

Membership and Directory Report
The Final Membership numbers for the new directory is 60, which is a good number to start the 2024 year. I want to thank all you sharp eyed folks who emailed your directory corrections to me. A lot of us have gotten rid of our very expensive land lines! I am hoping to get the directory to the printer and have it mailed before our planned Asian cruise.

Thinking about a Chinook Glacier?
Patsy and I are mulling over what to do with our wonderful but recently underused 2004 Glacier. No sales pitch here, just wondering if anyone in the club would be considering owning one. We hate to part with it, but nature has come to collect on all the operations to my eyes over the last 25 years, making driving increasingly difficult for me. On a more positive note, this Glacier comes with extraordinary technical support.  (I would say unlimited, but as I‘ve come to learn, nothing is unlimited anymore.)

Need New Newsletter Editor
and New V.P. Rallies
The Newsletter Editor role is to gather information and pictures from the club officers and others and get that information out to the entire membership in a newsletter. Currently, the newsletter is created and processed through an easy online application called Constant Contact, where you can simply make a copy of a previous newsletter or message and make changes.

The V.P. Rallies role is to communicate with club members about becoming hosts for rallies and to support and facilitate the efforts of the hosts. When I first became V.P. Rallies, I was told that the best way to find hosts for rallies was to talk to people about hosting rallies at every rally you attend, with a goal of getting at least one proposed rally in the works.

Thinking about a Chinook Destiny?
Since Dave mentioned their Glacier, I thought I'd go ahead and mention our 2001 Destiny that had a new engine installed in August 2021. As I said in the November newsletter, our RVing days have come to an end, so let me know if anyone is interested or knows someone who is.

<<< JANUARY RALLY RECAP >>>
QUARTZSITE, AZ Dry Camping Mini Rally
Held January 16-25, 2024
Off Plomosa Road 6 Miles North of the Town of Quartzsite
Hosted by Chris Rynhart
It's fantastic when a fellow Chinooker, who has plans to camp somewhere, decides to reach out to the rest of us to see if anyone else wants to come along. That's what Chris Rynhart did when she planned to camp outside of Quartzsite around the time of the big Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show. Thanks so much, Chris!

This was a small but very friendly rally with 4 different Chinookers showing up on various days.

First, Sonya and Sherry from Surprise, AZ with their 2003 Glacier. This was only their second venture out but first time boondocking for 4 days.
We travelled to Bouse for fish and chips on Friday and visited the big RV Show and tent.
Next came Safari Steve and Traveling Terry from Brenda, AZ. They came only for 24 hours because Steve was on call. (In the aerial picture, you can see the 3 Chinooks with all of us sitting around a campfire at the bottom of the picture)
Next came Jeff Johnson and Olga from Long Beach towing their dune buggy for 4 days. Fish and chips again.
Finally from LA came Stuart Bird-Wilson, a charming British gentleman with an old friend Mike, also British, who flew airplanes together. Stuart did not bring his Glacier Chinook, which was new to him, because he was having several repairs done. They only came for the day.
All in all it was a fun rally. Temps were in the 60’s and a few days of wet weather.

Great Forum for Technical Questions
A valuable resource that is not a part of the club is the free group site ChinookRVOwners, which I run and moderate. Most all members of the club are members of the site as well but there are many that are not part of the club. This forum is mostly technical – troubleshooting, problem solving, references and questions. Link is https://groups.io/g/Chinookrvowners. This site was at Yahoo Groups for nearly 15 years and is now moved to groups.io.

To Join the Chinook RV Club Facebook Page
Our Facebook Page is private and hidden, so if you haven't already joined, there's a little process you need to follow:

  1. If a club member wants to join our club's FB page they must first be signed up with Facebook.
  2. I can only send invitations to FB Friends, so send me a friend request.
  3. I will then issue an invitation to the club's FB page, which the member must accept to complete the process.
  4. Then, I will “unfriend” the member in my personal FB account. Please do not take this as a slight! Our friendship will still exist at the Chinook RV Club page, but there is no telling if our social media preferences align, and I do not want to take a chance that our individual preferences would in any way endanger our Chinook related relationship!

Invited members can use this link to access our club Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/961323693981878/, or enter Chinook RV Club in the Facebook search window.

THE CHINOOK SONG (OPUS THREE) by Al Enriquez 9/17/2003
(Sung to the tune of On Top of Old Smokey)
WE ARE HAPPY RV'ERS
WE SELDOM GET SHOOK
AND OF ALL OUR POSSESSIONS
WE LOVE OUR CHINOOK

WE TRAVEL THE HIGHWAYS
WITH NO CARES TO BEAR
WHEN WE STOP AND HOOK-UP
MOST PEOPLE STARE

THEY GATHER AROUND
TO ADMIRE OUR RIG
WE ASK THEM INSIDE
IF THEY'RE NOT TOO BIG

REFRAIN

WE'VE TRAVELED THE COUNTRY
AND WHEREVER WE ROAM
IN OUR TWENTY-ONE FOOTER
WE NEVER MISS HOME

WE GO EAST AND WEST
NORTH AND SOUTH TOO
WE FACE HILLS AND MOUNTAINS
THEY'RE EASY TO DO

WITH ONLY TWO SEATS
IT IS QUITE A THRILL
TO NOT HAVE TO WORRY
IF GRANDKIDS ARE STILL

TRAILWAGONS GO FORWARD
KEEP CHINOOKS WITH ZEST
FOR AS LONG AS WE'RE ABLE
WE'LL BE DRIVING THE BEST!

WE ARE HAPPY RV'ERS
WE SELDOM GET SHOOK
AND OF ALL OUR POSSESSIONS
WE LOVE OUR CHINOOK
