Responsibility & Repair
The CARER Framework is a way of structuring supportive strategies using the science of stress and well-being. This framework is mindful of the sequential nature of processing in the brain and uses this knowledge to support the development of Well-being for All

The emotional regulation of the adults and students is a parallel
process throughout this framework.

Each of the upcoming issues will feature one element of this framework along with free downloadable resources.

Co-regulation is characterized by warm and responsive interactions which help a child to understand, express and modulate thoughts, feelings and behavior.
It is the key to the development of self-regulation.

Self-regulation is the act of managing cognition and emotion to enable goal-directed actions such as organizing behavior, controlling impulses and solving problems constructively. It is the foundation of lifelong functioning. It can be taught with focused attention, support and practice.

Co-regulation always starts with a regulated adult.
Tools for Adult Regulation:
What are your sensory preferences? What do you seek to regulate? What do you avoid? How do you get your sensory needs met during the school day? Adult Sensory Checklist

We all experience big feelings from time to time. But each of us may want different things to help us to cope. Identify those needs here Adult Emotional Regulation Plan and consider sharing with a colleague.

Tools for Student Regulation:
Once we can recognize our own sensory preferences, it is easier to see them in students. Here are some examples of seeking and avoiding behaviors and ideas for how you can support these needs. Sensory Seeking and Avoiding
