Higher Temperatures Mean Higher Summer Bills

RMLD is alerting customers to a potential increase in their electric bills due to seasonal usage increases and higher power supply costs. Amid record inflation and gas prices, RMLD’s active power supply management and role as a not-for-profit public utility has kept this increase below the national average. Customers can expect an average 12% increase in their 2022 bill compared to 2021.

One way you can help keep energy costs down in the summer months and all year round is to shred the peak by conserving electricity at peak times, when power costs are more expensive. Learn more about RMLD’s Shred the Peak program here.

Join Us: Heat Pump Virtual Live Q&A

and Info Session

During the past few years, heat pumps have surged in popularity from an obscure technology in the Northeast to one of the area’s fastest growing installations for

homes and buildings. And as Massachusetts works toward a no-carbon future, residential heat pump adoption will continue to accelerate.

There are a lot of misconceptions about heat pumps as well as a lack of public awareness about the benefits of heat pump installation. Join us for a Q&A that will answer your burning heat pump questions on Wednesday, August 17 at 7:00 pm via Zoom. Come with questions or email them ahead of time to webinars@rmld.com

Changes to RMLD's Commercial Rebate Program

RMLD offers rebates to customers who upgrade their electrical panel to accommodate additional load due to the installation of all-electric appliances such as heat pumps or EV charging stations.

To promote electrification, RMLD has doubled rebate amounts on both 200-amp ($1,000) and 400-amp ($1,500) standard or smart electrical panels.

New Public EV Charging Stations Now in Use!

RMLD installed five new public EV charging stations: three in Reading and two in Wilmington. We commemorated their completion with a ribbon cutting with local officials and some of the supporters who made the project possible. Many residents and visitors have been using our public charging stations, and we hope they continue to add convenience for EV owners and raise awareness about the benefits of electric car ownership.

About RMLD
RMLD is one of 41 public power utilities in Massachusetts and is not-for-profit, locally owned, and locally controlled. RMLD serves Reading, North Reading, Wilmington, and Lynnfield Center.

A five-member Board of Commissioners, elected by Reading voters, governs the utility. A Citizens’ Advisory Board, appointed by the four communities RMLD serves, makes recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. Meetings are posted on RMLD's events calendar.

Board of Commissioner meetings are broadcast live on RCTV, and the recordings are shared with the other community TV stations. Meeting recordings can also be found on RCTV and RMLD YouTube Channels.
