WHOLE SCHOOL NEWS

Convocation Tonight!

We’re looking forward to seeing our amazing co-teachers tonight for our annual convocation in the Main Sanctuary from 6:10-6:50. Come gather with familiar faces, get to know ones, and be encouraged as we catch a vision for the upcoming school year. Then stay for further enrichment during our evening workshops from 7:00-8:45!

Co-Teacher Training This Week

In case you need it, here is our Co-Teacher Training schedule for the week.

Meet and Greet Aug. 22

Join other parents in the gym after chapel for some coffee and a time to meet new Providence parents and reconnect with returning ones.

New Safety Procedures

Among other safety updates for this school year, we will now require all parents entering the building to wear photo ID badges. Please log in to the online portal, and upload a picture onto your profile as soon as possible. Individuals who do not have a photo ID badge will be asked to sign in as a guest when they visit campus. If you have a grandparent or babysitter that will require regular building access, please contact our campus coordinator to create a Blackbaud account for them.

Upper School Reminders: The First Few Days of School This Week

New and returning 5th-12th grade families and students, be sure to check the Co-Teacher Training schedule for details about the first two days of school, August 17-18, including attire, school supplies, and lunch. This is a new format with the goal of providing an “on ramp” to a great school year. A few key points:

  • On Thursday, Aug. 17, all 5th-12th graders will attend from 9:00-2:30. Little preparation required! Students should bring a writing utensil and a folder for collecting handouts (no carts needed). We’ll start with House Howdy (annual welcome event) in the Worship Center, and then students will attend each class for an abbreviated amount of time. We’ll provide pizza for lunch.
  • Meanwhile, from 9:00-12:00, we’ll have upper school parent orientation. 5th and 6th grade parents will be on one track, while 7th-12th grade parents will be on another.
  • Friday, Aug. 18 is just for 5th-12th grade students. We’ll again start with an assembly in the Worship Center, and then students will attend (shortened) classes. We ask students to bring their carts on this day AND their own lunches (we’ll have our first house lunch!) No uniforms required; students should wear Providence t-shirts if they own one.
  • Monday, Aug. 21: We’ll have a short Upper School homeschool day, mostly to acclimate students to the homeschool process. You can see the linked lesson plans on this Lamp-Post.

GRAMMAR SCHOOL NEWS

Save the Date: PreK-4th Grade Open House (Mon, Aug 21)

PreK-4th grade parents and students, join us next Monday night, August 21, from 6:00- 7:00 p.m. to meet your childrens’ teachers and see their classrooms. This simple visit can help alleviate those first day jitters. We hope to see you there!

Lunch Change

PreK-4th grade classes will not have access to microwaves this year.  In recent years, lines and cook times increased, keeping some students from being able to heat their food and eat within lunch time.  Being microwave-free will also help us have flexibility to go outside when the weather is nice. We recommend using a quality thermos to help keep mac-and-cheese warm and ready to eat.

Co-Teacher Guides

Instead of Lower School (PK-4th grade) lesson plans that you will normally find linked in future editions of the Lamp-Post, we have linked documents that provide grade-level overviews and resources to co-teachers. The majority of the documents are consistent throughout grades K-4, with information for the specific grade level placed in boxes. We hope you find these helpful for the upcoming year!

Lesson Plan Notes

In the menu to the right, you will find abbreviated lesson plans for this Thursday, August 17, and Friday, August 18. You do not need to print these for 5th and 6th graders this week.

HOUSE HAPPENINGS

House Howdy, Thursday, Aug. 14

All students in 5th-12th grades should report to the Worship Center for our annual “Welcome to Providence,” or House Howdy at 9am. New Providence students and fifth graders will find out what house they will be in while at Providence. Games and structured social activities will follow. After House Howdy, students will be dismissed to classrooms for the remainder of the day.

SECONDARY SCHOOL NEWS
