Summer Reflections
For those of us who work tirelessly all year in our classrooms and in schools, summer is a time of much needed rest and rejuvenation. We hope you are making this kind of time for yourselves. Here at COSEBOC we have gathered some videos and blogs that may support your planning as you prepare for your school opening this fall.
Footprints & Footsteps: It’s all Sankofa
If you are an educational leader who is thinking about new approaches to the affirmative development of boys and young men of color, please take a moment to watch this 2- minute video.
In this short video, Timothy Jones and Ron Walker speak of COSEBOC’s Footprints & Footsteps professional development course with compelling wisdom and understanding. Footprints & Footsteps is a pedagogical approach rooted in Sankofa. It is a return to one’s essential history; to the values, practices, rituals, and intelligence that help activate a memory of healthy identity. The course for adults, to strengthen their acumen in a culturally responsive way about the past, the present and looking to the future - solely in service of freedom, agency and liberation for young men of color. The course is also a literacy program, because the young men who participate in the program will operate in media literacy, critical thinking, creativity and collaboration.
