THE PRODIGY REPORT
OUR SECOND QUARTER REVIEW & ANNOUNCEMENTS
|
|
A LETTER FROM OUR LEADERS
As recruiters, we are often asked by candidates, and sometimes by our clients, about the pulse of the industry. Commonly phrased on a phone call, in an email or a LinkedIn note: “what are you hearing?”, “what are you seeing?”, “what’s your take?” The individual asking simply wants to know our outlook on the industry, as a whole, and occasionally about certain sectors where we have a track record and some expertise. We talk internally that we don’t have all the answers and don’t want the recipient of our educated guesses, forecasting, or point-of-view to treat it as gospel. The reality of it is, due to the nature of our day job as executive recruiters, we have a unique opportunity to look at the entire industry...from a 30,000-foot perspective and give the jobseeker or hiring organization a broad generalization, and sometimes a very specific and dialed-in perspective. At Prodigy Search, we work with professional teams, leagues, agencies, sports nonprofits, ticketing companies, brands, minor league franchises, and F&B companies. So, we listen to them when they elaborate on their businesses and provide insights and projections. Then we either read between-the-lines or decode it for others who ask us “what are you hearing” or “what are you seeing?”.
The reality is…the industry is healthy! There is growth, innovation, and hiring needs. Does that mean it’s all sunshine and rainbows? Absolutely not. We have seen, heard, and read about organizations laying people off due to inflation and other market factors, reorganizing due to PE or M&A activity, and hiring freezes due to the “slow season” – it’s merely the ebb and flow of our industry. We are not labor market experts nor economists, but we can look at the boutique executive search firm activity and workload to make judgment calls about the “pulse of the industry”. The goal is to push - keep the positive momentum moving forward, and not lose steam due to the “slow season”.
