The Prep Post

A Note from Buffalo Prep's Chief Program Officer, Dr. Marcus Deveso:

When we think of Buffalo Prep's slogan, "Illuminating Brilliance," many people automatically, and rightfully, think of the brilliance of Buffalo Prep's amazing scholars. This summer, I have had the privilege of briefly pausing some of the bigger picture duties of Chief Program Officer in order to spend much of my time as Middle School Prep's program manager and observing High School Prep and Prep Scholars Academy in action. As usual, our scholars are some of the most brilliant, incredible young people you will ever meet. Really getting to know them as program manager brings me joy each and every day.

However, one thing that is really striking me this summer is that Buffalo Prep also exists to illuminate the brilliance of our faculty and staff! It has been incredible to witness the excellence that happens when dedicated adults are simply provided the conditions to shine. The educational product in every classroom in every program is more rigorous, yet more engaging and enjoyable than ever. The clubs have become spaces for community building and palpable joy. When the inevitable challenge occurs, the team unites seamlessly to solve it.

As we head into the final three weeks of the summer, I couldn't be more proud of the programming. The academic offering remains as solid as ever and the sense of being cared for, capable, and connected.

Class Highlights!

Prep Scholars Academy: Science

Our scholars are engaging in a hands-on project to create "energy-efficient houses." This activity teaches them about efficiency, conservation, and diminishing returns as they use various materials to build their models and test their effectiveness.

Middle School Prep: English Language Arts

In ELA, our scholars are expressing their creativity and perspectives through poetry. They are crafting poems that illuminate their unique voices and make powerful statements about issues that are important to them.

High School Prep: Math

Students are diving into financial literacy, learning essential skills for managing personal finances. They are each developing their own individual budget and practicing how to balance a checkbook, preparing them for real-world financial responsibilities.

All programs are incorporating variations of the theme "Building a Better City." For instance, in the Middle School Prep math class, scholars are exploring the essential components of cities and what they require to thrive. They are learning how mathematics is integral to architectural and city planning design, understanding the connections between mathematical concepts and urban development.

Stay tuned to our social media channels for updates on these exciting projects and more activities our students are working on!
