Buffalo Prep | AKG Takeover!

On Monday, July 29th, over 200 scholars from all three of our summer enrichment programs visited the Buffalo AKG Art Museum to tour several exhibits, including the Before and After Again. Before and After Again is an exhibition of artwork, prose, and poetry by the Buffalo-based artists and cultural producers Julia Bottoms, Tiffany Gaines, and Jillian Hanesworth. Their works respond to the tragic slaying of ten Buffalo residents on May 14, 2022, at the Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo, New York. Learn more about the powerful exhibit here.

After touring the exhibit, students gathered in the auditorium and had the chance to hear from the artists themselves. Julia, Tiffany, and Jillian shared insights into the creative processes behind their work and engaged in a Q&A with scholars.  We are grateful to the Buffalo AKG Art Museum and the artists for providing such a valuable and impactful opportunity.

Countdown to Prep Rally!

We can’t believe we are approaching the last week of programming! Over the past four weeks, our scholars have been deeply engaged in culturally relevant learning and enrichment activities. Next Friday, at Prep Rally, they’ll have the opportunity to showcase their brilliant work and all they have accomplished this summer. Prep Rally is a celebratory event that marks the culmination of our summer programming at Buffalo Prep, providing a platform for scholars to share their hard work, creativity, and what they have learned over the past weeks.

Some of the final projects include:

• creating an information campaign about local environmental justice topics
• drafting law proposals to benefit their communities
• writing stories from the perspective of someone in their neighborhood. Inspired by the style of Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman, they are using the first-person point of view to bring these narratives to life.

We are incredibly proud of the brilliance our scholars have shown throughout the summer and can’t wait to see their final presentations. Stay tuned for more updates as we celebrate their hard work and achievements!

Join us for everyone's favorite summer party to support Buffalo Prep! Party for Prep is our annual event hosted by the Prep Collective, Buffalo Prep's affinity group for young professionals. This event brings together the next generation of community leaders and our steadfast supporters to benefit Buffalo Prep and the Fuel Fund, presented by National Fuel, which supports our high school scholars on their educational journey - in and outside of the classroom.

Party for Prep will be held next week on Friday, August 9th from 6pm-8pm at The Steer located at 3151 Main St., Buffalo, NY 14214.
