The Missouri River and the Arikara

Wednesday, April 24, 7pm

Arikara Cultural Center, White Shield

Please join us for an elder-led class on the sacred role of the Missouri River to the Arikara. Just as water represents new life in the sacrament of Christian baptism, the Missouri River has always meant life to the Arikara. The construction of the Garrison Dam displaced the Arikara from their home along the Missouri River. A United Thank Offering grant in creation care has recognized the need for environmental reparations; this class is part of raising awareness of the sacred significance of the Missouri River to the Sahnish (Arikara).
