What are the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR)?
Nationwide, water utilities must meet new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements for LCRR to better protect children and the community from lead-related exposure. To lessen potential lead risks, the EPA is requiring water utilities to generate a comprehensive inventory of all service lines, including those owned by customers.
Actions by Prince William Water
To comply with the EPA requirements, Prince William Water is assessing the materials used in the construction of water service lines on both the utility’s side and the property owner’s side of the water meter.
On the utility’s side, Prince William Water is documenting the service line materials by inspecting the meter crock, taking a photo and recording the findings. On the property owner’s side, we are conducting test pit excavations. Public outreach materials are distributed in advance to inform affected customers of the upcoming work.
Encouraging Customer Participation
We encourage Prince William Water customers to participate in this important inventory process by assessing the material in your water service lines. By filling out a form on our website and reporting the service line material to Prince William Water, you will help to ensure the safety of our community’s drinking water. Service line inventories must be completed and submitted to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) by Oct. 16, 2024.
