Recovering from Hurricane Beryl

Post-Storm Debris Removal

The last day to set out storm-related vegetation and construction and demolition (C&D) debris by the curb for collection has passed. Any fresh green debris that has been put on the curb is not considered storm-related and will not be collected by the debris removal contract.

The debris hauling crews are currently working on C&D collection Citywide.

The second pass on vegetation is complete west of SH 146.

The second pass on vegetation will resume after the C&D collection east of SH 146.

Debris haulers are forecasting project completion in three weeks.

Reminder

  • Place vegetation for collection within the right-of-way, between the property line and the street.
  • Do not include bagged leaves with storm debris.
  • Do not place debris near or on trees, poles, mailboxes, fire hydrants, utility boxes, or other structures.
  • Do not place vegetation debris mixed with construction debris; the piles of each debris category must be separated.
  • Do not park in front of or near debris as the debris will not be picked up.
  • Debris placed between the sidewalk and your home will not be picked up.

FEMA requires careful recordkeeping regarding expenditures for communities to obtain reimbursement which will be 75% FEMA and 25% City. Jeopardizing compliance could result in 100% of the expenditure being paid by the City. Debris monitors follow the debris collection vehicles to ensure compliance with FEMA rules.

City News & Happenings

SH 146 Expansion

The TxDOT project in the City of Seabrook for the expansion of SH 146 continues to close out as the clean-up in the right of ways, pavers, and painting continues.

SH 146 Landscaping

The TxDOT landscaping project contractor is starting to the south of Seabrook and is expected to fully move into Seabrook as soon as Webber (current contractor) is complete.

SH 146 at Red Bluff

The 2nd SH 146 TxDOT project that begins at Red Bluff and extends to Spencer Highway continues. Crews can visibly be seen working this week on the supports for the new southbound and northbound lanes that will be added to the Red Bluff overpass.

This project also includes the TxDOT intersection at Old SH146 and Red Bluff. The reconstruction of the intersection is included in this 2nd project and they are communicating to the city that the project will begin within the next 11 months.

North Meyer Reconstruction

With the City’s recent issuance of Certificates of Obligation, the city identified based on the subgrade condition, the reconstruction of North Meyer from the boundaries of East Meyer to SH 146. The city has received an initial grant from Harris County Precinct 2 to leverage this debt funding and get a 50% grant match. During the SH 146 expansion project and the recent drought, this road took some serious volumes and will now need to be repaired through reconstruction. As part of this project, new and upgraded sidewalk segments will be included.

Pelican Bay Pool Update

On February 7, 2024, the City Council unanimously approved an agreement with Progressive Commercial Aquatics to perform a comprehensive assessment of the Pelican Bay Pool facility. The findings from this assessment are expected to be presented at an upcoming City Council meeting, which will initiate discussions on funding for the new capital project based on the estimated costs and design scope.
