It Takes Courage to Be Who We Are

By Kalpana (Rose) M. Kumar, M.D.

It takes courage for us to be who we are so we can live from a place of meaning. We risk disappointing others when we follow our inner guidance. It’s no surprise why this is difficult for most. Embedded in our fear of disappointing others is also a fear of being rejected and abandoned by them.

Mastering the Seven Spiritual Pillars of the Heart

Eric Ehrke, LCSW, LMFT

The first pillar is our conscience, which holds our early and/or recent lessons about what we ought, should, and/or must do each day. Located in the xiphoid process, if this pillar is too open, we can become guilt ridden, overly defensive and rationalize excessively. If blocked, we may lose access to our emotional life and/or fail to develop any conscience at all. Cartoonists picture this first pillar as an angel whispering what we should do in one ear and a devil in the other.

Thrive in the midst of change - Join us for yoga!

Shelley Carpenter, PT, RYT, RM

As we enter autumn, we become acutely aware of the passage of time and the changing seasons. Just a few weeks ago the air conditioning was running non-stop. Now we are reaching for jackets when we head outside. The days are becoming shorter and the nights longer. Where does the time go? Whether we want to admit it or not, nothing is permanent. We can resist change and try to keep things the “way they are”, but change is constantly occurring.

The Wise Mind Collage Process

Angela Topetzes, ATR

The act of art-making can be therapeutic in and of itself. Such as, applying pigment to a water saturated paper, and observing the spontaneity in how the pigment spreads across the fibers of the paper can increase curiosity and wonderment. Pressing on the firmness yet responsiveness of clay can connect one’s mind and body. Ripping, dipping, and sticking layers of paper mâché onto a mold can enhance one’s inner rhythm moving them into flow state and increase a sense of connection.
