October 2023| Issue 34

From My Desk to Your Inbox

Fall has arrived, and with it comes the fall leaves. As beautiful as the leaves are, please remember that falling leaves can clog storm drains and gutters. It is important to keep your gutters and storm drains clear and open to prevent water damage in your homes and flooding on the street.

Trick or Treat is Tuesday, October 31st, between 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. Children can’t wait to wear costumes and walk around the neighborhood to receive treats, so if your home is participating in Trick-or-Treat, please put your front porch light on to help illuminate the walkway to your front door. For further safety, while walking children door-to-door, use a flashlight to guide your way. Safety forces will be out driving up and down streets. Make sure you wave and say hello.

The general election is on Tuesday, November 7th. Exercise your right to vote! Polls are open between 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the following locations:

  1. Our Savior Lutheran Church - 2154 SOM Center
  2. Cornerstone Community Church- 1400 Lander Road
  3. The Drake Apartments - 6503 Marsol Road

The construction season is coming to an end. Repairs were made to city roads and sidewalks, and the Aquatic and Community Center is nearly complete. Thank you for your patience and support during the construction projects. I am committed to ensuring that Mayfield Heights remains a vibrant city.

Anthony DiCicco, Mayor/Safety Director

Human Resources

Two new Administrative Assistants have been hired and will undertake a range of responsibilities at both City Hall and the new Aquatics and Community Center. Their primary responsibilities will include front desk duties, office support tasks, and administrative services for the Recreation Department and City Hall Administrative Offices.

The individuals selected are Lisa Formichelli and Kathy Gedeon, both of whom have been exemplary part-time employees for the City since 2019. Each has consistently demonstrated exceptional work ethic and service to the community. Their full-time employment began on October 2, 2023.

We wish them continued success in their new capacity.

Fall Leaf Collection

The service department will begin continuous curbside leaf collection on all streets beginning Monday, October 16th. The collection will be house to house and street by street. Once the cycle of streets has been completed (all city streets), we will begin the cycle again. Please place your leaves on the tree lawn for collection, not in the street. Leaves placed in the street can be a hazard to motorists and can block sewers, which can create flooding.   Please do not mix grass in with the leaves. Grass should be placed in bags for trash collection or composted. All branches should be tied and bundled in 4-foot lengths for trash collection or left loose and stacked separately away from leaf piles for the service department to collect.

The leaf collection program will end the third week of December. The program end date will allow the service department time for the Equipment to be changed over in preparation for snow removal operations.
