Helping Needy Families Have A Brighter Future

HOME VISITS, HOME VISITS & MORE HOME VISITS!

If you're familiar with Help Give Hope, you know October is our 'home visit' month. What that means is, with the help of dozens of volunteers, we conduct home visits with each of the hundreds of families that applied for Christmas assistance. We are ready and willing to offer a 'hand-up' to all who ask so long as they qualify and are putting forth effort to help themselves. And we take this job seriously!

Our ability to help so many families is possible, in part, because of the success of several annual and on-going fundraising activities. Let's take a closer look at the 2021 Christmas project as well as results of these efforts. But first, a tribute to a dear friend of HGH who is no longer with us.

  TO OUR DEAR FRIEND
SUZY BUNGE

“…People come into our lives for a reason, bringing something we must learn and we are led, to those who help us most to grow if we let them. And we help them in return…Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better? But because I knew you, I have been changed for good.” For Good; Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz for Wicked the Musical.

As a big Musical Theatre buff, Wicked is one of my favorite! Listening to the song, For Good, reminds me so much of Suzy Bunge. It describes her so perfectly.  Suzy stormed into HGH during Christmas 2012 and as they say, the rest is history. October marks one year since we lost her to COVID-19.

When Sandy and her volunteer team gathered this past February to begin the task(s) of organizing the 2021 season of sales, it was the first gathering of this group since losing Suzy. It didn’t have the same zip it usually does when everyone gathers for the first time in a while.  Sandy announced that this season would be dedicated to Suzy and her memory.

Her love and commitment to everything Help Give Hope cannot be measured. She participated in every volunteer aspect of HGH and usually recruited others, including her family, to join in as well as those not familiar with us or what we do. And in true Suzy fashion, her love has now become their love for what we do.  We all knew that the garage sale was her favorite. She would donate and she was one of our best shoppers! Always offering help where ever she could. She was a jewel in the HGH Crown.

This past garage sale season was a real success. $82,905! Great donations. Solid sale days. Fantastic returning volunteers. New faces who jumped right in and are now new friends. It could have been real easy for the Bunge family to fade into the sunset. Too hard to return without Suzy. Too hard to find the time. But, no. They all came back. To Eddy, Michelle, Mark, Tina and Michael, Thank you. Suzy’s legacy continues to be felt by all of us. Though we didn’t talk much about dedicating last season to Suzy, we didn’t need to. We all felt it. We all worked harder. We cleaned more, we recruited more, we tried harder. Thank you Suzy, for your love and passion for Help Give Hope. We have changed for good.

  SO CLOSE!
Land Rover Defender Above & Beyond Service Award

What is my take-a-way in not winning the Land Rover Defender? Anything but sadness. Our story was selected from over 300 entries. Help Give Hope was showcased in a nation-wide campaign. Thousands of friends took the time to support us by voting. We have already received a donation from New York because of the exposure of the contest. Personally, I was touched by the outpouring of support I received after the announcement. – Michael Brady

  2021 CHRISTMAS PROJECT

Now in full swing, it's a 3+ month labor of love for Help Give Hope beginning early September and concluding mid-December. Home visits, warehouse preparation, shopping, distribution and delivery are a few of the outward signs of the project while a mountain of critical administrative work goes on behind the scenes. But ultimately, we can't do any of this without the help of our HGH family!

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!
