State Budget Doubles Down on Push to Get Quality Broadband to All Ohioans

After months of deliberation, Ohio’s leaders recently wrapped up the budget process, setting state funding and policy priorities for the next two years. Building on the last budget’s quarter-billion-dollar commitment to fund a new Residential Broadband Expansion Grant program to get internet into unserved areas, the new two-year budget invests another $186 million toward broadband access and equity. For those Ohioans who continue to lack quality, reliable internet service in their homes, this is another huge shot in the arm as providers work to get them connected to fast broadband, and as quickly as possible. Husted Announces Regional Hubs to Promote Ohio's Broadband and 5G Sector Workforce Strategy

Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted, who serves as Director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation, recently announced six regional hubs across the state that will help expand the efforts of Ohio’s Broadband and 5G Sector Partnership locally. As part of the implementation of Ohio's Broadband and 5G Workforce Strategy, the regional hubs will be placed across JobsOhio's six-region map and will provide resources to local communities so they can create the talent pipeline needed for local businesses. The Impact of the Affordable Connectivity Program

The FCC's Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which provides a monthly subsidy to eligible, low-income households to connect to broadband service, has been instrumental in getting broadband to more American homes and to advancing digital equity. Here are a few ways that it’s making a difference in getting broadband to those people who need it most.

  • To date, ACP has helped connect more than 18 million households to the internet across all ages and across all 50 states.


  • All major cable broadband providers, including Charter, Comcast, Cox, GCI, Mediacom, Midco, and Vyve all promote and participate in ACP—which is further helping to increase broadband adoption across America.

Shared Spectrum Promotes Innovation, Competition and Consumer Savings

Recently, NTIA issued a report analyzing the early development and successes of the nation's Citizen's Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) – a relatively new spectrum design model allowing many parties to share public airwaves supporting both commercial and government activities.
