| | Each one of the 53 migrants who lost their lives on June 27, 2022 in a trailer in San Antonio was a son or daughter of God, full of dignity and hope. They were human beings with names, faces and dreams, whose fate was tragically sealed on a journey marked by danger and suffering. Their loss represents a deep wound in our community and reminds us of the urgency to confront the root causes of migration and to respond with compassion and solidarity. It is crucial that we come together as a community and as human beings to find solutions and work together to protect the rights and dignity of all migrants. Migration is a phenomenon that affects vulnerable people seeking safety and opportunity, and it is our responsibility as a society to respond to their suffering with love, compassion and understanding. As a community of faith, let us raise our voices, and call for justice and solidarity, so that tragedies like this never happen again. In this way, too, I call on all the faithful and our community in general to open their hearts and arms to those who seek refuge and protection. May the mercy and love of God guide us in our ways of treating our brother and sister migrants; and inspire us to build a world where justice, peace and dignity for all, prevail. We commend the deceased migrants to God and ask comfort and strength for their loved ones. May His memory prompt us to act with compassion and generosity at all times.
