Esto dice el Señor Dios:

"Israel, conviértete al Señor, Dios tuyo,

pues tu maldad te ha hecho sucumbir.

Arrepiéntanse y acérquense al Señor para decirle:

'Perdona todas nuestras maldades,

acepta nuestro arrepentimiento sincero,

Message from Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS

Most Rev. Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS

During Lent, we prepare to partake in the Lord’s victory over evil. Lent is the time to tidy up our hearts. It is the best time to get rid of old stuff in our souls. Lent is the time to prepare for Jesus to come to us and bring us new life. Resentment is like very stuck-on dirt. It is very difficult to clean, so it is best not to allow it to build up. Thousands of years ago, it was the law of the strongest. When someone thought they had been attacked, they would fight back. Whoever was right didn’t always win. Rather, the winner was the strongest. Then, the law of retaliation was introduced. What Jesus taught revolutionized the world. We need God’s help to clean up our hearts, especially if we have any stuck-up dirt. We need to pray for help. On the cross, Jesus set the most perfect example. On the third day, He rose again. So, let us prepare well for Easter, through prayer, fasting, and the most important form of almsgiving: forgiveness.

c647c238-7c33-42d1-9ac8-3f3130812b17 image

Join young adults from across the archdiocese as we follow the command of Jesus to feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, and serve Him by serving those in need. In partnership with Catholic Charities of San Antonio and the Young Adult Board of Advisors, we will make and deliver lunch bags to socially isolated seniors enrolled in the Adopt-a-Senior Program, following the model of missionary disciples whom Jesus sent "in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit" (LK 10:1). Be part of our mission as we bring the presence of Jesus to our brothers and sisters in need. Join us at Catholic Charities of San Antonio (202 W. French Pl., SA TX 78212) on March 9 as we begin with Mass at 8 a.m. and then go out to proclaim the joy of the Gospel! Note: All volunteers must be safe environment compliant and have completed a criminal background check.

Having given up active Christian belief while a soldier, John was 40 before the depth of his sinfulness began to dawn on him. He decided to give the rest of his life to God’s service, and headed at once for Africa where he hoped to free captive Christians and, possibly, be martyred.
