Once a person has received and accepted God’s calling, they find themselves within a community of missionary disciples, members of one Body. The same Spirit who calls each member, gives life, unity, and purpose to the whole Body. When the Church is effectively led by the Spirit, she and her members overcome self-absorption and begin to see the needs of other members and those in the outskirts. When the Church listens to the Holy Spirit, she discovers her gifts according to those needs. In that process of prayerful and attentive listening to walk together — which we call synodality — the number of disciples grows. It is not right for us to neglect any ministry, but only working together do the different gifts bear fruit. What will He ask of each of you in particular? As you well know by experience, the Lord calls in due time.

The archdiocesan Young Adult Ministry invite you to join other young adults for adoration, confession, and fellowship at St. Joseph’s Church Downtown (directions) from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Between June 22, Feast of Sts. John Fisher and Thomas More, and June 29, Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, the Catholic Church intensifies its efforts around the crucial topic of religious freedom. Clergy, religious, and laity joined as the visible Body of Christ in a joyous feast of Corpus Christi procession throughout downtown San Antonio, led by Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS; Auxiliary Bishop Michael Boulette; and Auxiliary Bishop Gary Janak. Following the 5 p.m. Mass at San Fernando Cathedral on June 11, the archbishop vested with the cope and humeral to lead the procession with the monstrance containing the Blessed Sacrament from Main Plaza to South Flores Street to Houston Street to North St. Mary’s Street to East Commerce Street and back to the cathedral. Knights of Columbus and Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulcher were at the front of the vanguard, assisted by Messengers of the Real Presence. A choir and music ministers shared their voices in praise while trumpet blasts echoed among skyscrapers. There were four altar stations along the route for prayer and readings to be proclaimed, and as worshippers stopped along the front steps of St. Mary’s Church, a cascade of rose petals descended from the roof of the rectory.
