is closed on June 19 in observance of Juneteenth.

Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the day in 1865 when all enslaved African Americans in the United States were finally freed from bondage. Although the Emancipation Proclamation, issued by President Abraham Lincoln on Jan. 1, 1863, declared freedom for enslaved people in Confederate states, it was not until after the end of the Civil War that it became a reality. Juneteenth, officially known as Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday in the United States.

Camaraderie, Community, and Colleagues

by Mariann Marston, Christ Church, Dover

Out 3rd Annual Parish Administrators Retreat was held on June 13, 2024 at Memorial House in Rehoboth Beach. To say it was just what we needed doesn't begin to cover the day and the camaraderie we share and feel for each other. Our guest for this retreat was Cynde Bimbi, the diocesan director of communications, who shared communication information with us that will greatly assist us with our jobs. As always, Cynde hit the mark with her presentation. Also, a thank you to Kathleen Moore, executive assistant to Bishop Brown, for being with us as well. It is always a joy to be in community with our colleagues across the diocese, and we always look forward to seeing each other.

Annual Clergy Retreat

with the Rev. Dr. Michael Battle as featured speaker

by the Rev. Canon Brad Hinton

The recent clergy retreat, held at the beautiful Claggett Center in Adamstown, Maryland, from June 11-13, was a time of collegiality, learning, and a welcomed respite. The retreat featured the Rev. Dr. Michael Battle as the keynote speaker, who guided a robust and, at times, deep learning experience.

One aspect of his presentation was on the role of apocalypse (aka “revealing”) in the Revelation of St. John and its continuing relevance to the modern church. Through Dr. Battle's sessions, we explored the deeper meanings and implications of apocalyptic themes present in both the book of Revelation and in modern experiences and issues. Along the way we shared valuable perspectives that will enrich our ministry and spiritual leadership.
