Here's the latest on what's happening at our council!
|
|
We hope you're enjoying your summer, especially if you get the chance to take a much-needed vacation. A few important notices right up front before we get to some news stories:
- Council Cleanup this Sunday Morning: Sorry for the short notice, but with all of the recent rain our council is being overgrown by weeds! So, we're going to have a much-needed landscaping and cleanup party this Sunday morning starting at 10 a.m., to spruce up our grounds for our members, tenants, hall renters and prospective renters. Fortunately, the weather is looking to be clear and not too hot. Please bring string trimmers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, and work gloves -- not to mention "shovels and rakes and implements of destruction." We usually finish in under two hours if we have even a modest turnout. "Many hands make light work" as they say, so please lend a hand if you can!
- We decided to postpone the reconstruction of the St. James crèche, which was tentatively scheduled for this weekend, due to the earlier forecast of rain all weekend and scheduling conflicts for some key personnel. We are tentatively rescheduling to the weekend of August 12-13. Keep a look out for a confirmatory notification, but for now please save the date. We still especially need volunteers with artistic talent to refresh and repair the statues, which can be done at a separate time if need be. Please let the GK or Project Manager Richie Ferris know if you can help.

Ladies Auxiliary President Silke Installed
Right before the start of our July 12th general business meeting, GK Rob Firriolo had the pleasure of installing Gail Driscoll-Silke as the returning president of our council's Ladies Auxiliary, also known as "The Ladies of the Lakes."
This is Gail's second term as president, and she and her officers have been doing an outstanding job. After she was installed by the council, Gail proceeded to install the other officers of the Ladies Auxiliary for the 2016-17 fraternal year.
Please congratulate Gail and the other officers, and also thank them for all of the great work they are doing to help our council and to raise funds for important charities through bingo, bell jar ticket sales, the annual Penny Social, and in many, many other ways. If your wife or adult daughter isn't a member yet, encourage her to attend the next meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary, or to speak with Gail or any of the other members about their great organization.

Thank You to All Of Our St. James Feast Volunteers!
We had a terrific showing of volunteers for this year's Feast of St. James the Apostle! Members of our council ran the casino and casino beverage sales, worked security, manned the Sausage Connection booth and other vendor stations, helped with the daily accounting, and served in a variety of other important capacities. We also had a very nice showing of members and families support the feast as customers, donors, and patrons.
A great big THANK YOU to everybody who donated their time, treasure and talents to help make the feast a successful fundraiser for our parish!

- Our next regular business meeting is Wednesday, August 9th. We'll serve dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will start promptly at 7:30. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend our brief but informative monthly meetings. We have a very busy fall in the works, and now is the time that we start planning. Get involved and get in on the fun!
- REMINDER: The KofC's New York State Council is selling tickets to the Yankees vs. Orioles game at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, September 17th. Ticket sales will benefit Catholic education through three foundations: Futures in Education (Brooklyn Diocese), Tomorrow's Hope Foundation (Rockville Centre Diocese), and the Inner-City Scholarship Fund (New York Archdiocese), which will share in a $16 donation from the $32 price of every ticket sold. For more information or reservations, please contact Gary Leonardo at (914) 450-2417 or by email. Checks should be made payable to "NYS COUNCIL, KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS" and please put "YANKEES 2017" on the memo line. Please let Brother Knight Tim Malone or GK Rob know if you are interested in going, and if there is enough interest we will make this a council-wide excursion.
