The Lake Current - June 26, 2017
Here's the latest on what's happening at our council!
Annual Summer Blood Drive This Friday!

Come give the gift of life by donating blood! Join us, the Driscoll Lodge FOP, Putnam's Bureau of Emergency Services, and Putnam's FDNY members, on Friday, June 30th, from 2-8 p.m., at the Carmel Veterans of Foreign Wars hall, located at 32 Gleneida Avenue (Route 52).

Donate a pint of your blood so that others might live. Because of vacations and the summer holidays, the blood supply is low and, unfortunately, the demand is high. For your pint you'll receive a coupon for appetizers at Applebee's restaurant in Southeast, and a $5 Dunkin' Donuts gift card. There will be food and refreshments on hand for your replenishment.

Contact Denis Harahan at (845) 225-3048, Tom Burke at (347) 992-4986, or GK Rob Firriolo for more info.

Please consider helping us with set-up starting at noon.
It's C&B Time Again!

It's once again time to join with KofC councils across New York State and raise funds for important charities by selling tickets to the annual Charitable & Benevolent Program raffle. Not only are there $50,000 in cash prizes -- including the $25,000 Grand Prize -- but our council keeps a portion of the cash from the sales to help with our own charitable efforts.

Please get in your ticket stubs and sales money ASAP to be eligible for the Early Bird raffle! Additional ticket books are available upon request. In the event you cannot sell your tickets, please return them to the council so that we may pass them along to others for sale.

Please contact our C&B Chairman, DGK Steve Gheduzzi, with any questions or for more tickets. Please address your C&B mailings to his attention at 10 Fair Street, Carmel, NY 10512.

Mohegan Sun Casino Trip - July 15th

Our next Mario Antoci Memorial Mohegan Sun Casino Excursion is Saturday, July 15th!

For only $40 you get transportation, a $15 lunch voucher (which gets you a fantastic buffet!), and $10 casino match play.

Start with coffee and donuts at the council at 7 a.m. Bus leaves our council at 8:00 a.m. sharp. Enjoy a six-hour stay at the casino. Beer, soda and water will be provided on the bus. Bring whatever you like to snack and drink.

YOU MUST BE PREPAID BY July 1st. Seating is limited and the bus fills up quickly. To guarantee a seat, you must make a reservation! For information and reservations, call PGK Bobby Palazzo at (845) 216-1997.
Our Citi Field Trip Was a Hit!

We had an amazin' time on our Citi Field excursion on Saturday, June 17th! We started off the day with a barbecue lunch buffet at the council, and then embarked on our bus trip to Flushing under less than welcoming skies. Things looked grim as we traveled through heavy downpours along the way. But then just as we arrived at the stadium, the skies cleared and the rain held off until we were ready to head for home.

Unfortunately, the first-place Nationals jumped out to an early lead, and the Mets were never able to close the gap, losing 7-4. But it was still a decent game to watch from our seats next to the enormous Home Run Apple (which made a single appearance thanks to solo homer by Cespedes - see photo below), and the Mets were still in it for much of the game. Or so it seemed at times.
Thanks to everybody who turned out, and special thanks to Bobby Palazzo for organizing this year's outing, which was held in memory of Jimmy O'Neill. J.O. organized our first Citi Field trip last year, and we plan to keep the tradition alive. Because that's what J.O. would do!
St. James Feast - July 19-22

On Wednesday through Saturday July 19-22, we will once again turn out in force to volunteer at The Feast of St. James, our parish's annual fundraiser and family festival. Council members will help in many ways, including as casino workers, in beverage sales, working security, staffing vendor booths, and more.

The volunteer sign-up book is now available in the Parish Office. Please sign up!

Also, this year our parish is seeking donations of bulk goods to prepare their tents for the feast. If you shop at BJ's, Sam's Club, Restaurant Depot, or Costco, the parish is asking for BULK packaged items such as:

Napkins, Paper Towels, 4" and 9" Paper Plates, Large Boxes of Plastic Cutlery, Aluminum Foil, Ziploc Bags (snack, sandwich & quart sizes), #8 & #12 Brown Lunch Bags, Powdered Sugar (20# bags), Vegetable & Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Salt, and Packets of Mustard & Ketchup.

Please bring these items to Doherty Hall on Saturday, June 25th, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Council Officers, please take note that the next Officers Meeting will be Monday, July 3rd at 7:30 p.m. It has been moved from the usual first Wednesday of the month due to a scheduling conflict.

  • There will be no meeting of the Fourth Degree in July due to a scheduling conflict with the St. James Feast. Sir Knights should watch their email or check the Mother Cabrini Assembly website in early-August for an announcement with the date of the next meeting.

The winner for June of the Assembly's "A Night Out on the Sir Knights" Year of Dinners Raffle is DD Bob Cuthbert, who will receive gift certificates to Taormina II Restaurant and the Paramount Theater.
There still five more chances to win $250 gift certificates to top local restaurants, plus the $400 Mohonk Mountain House grand prize. So get your tickets from FN Steve Gheduzzi before the next drawing in July! "You've got to be in it to win it."

  • Reconstruction of the St. James crèche is scheduled for the weekend of July 29-30, weather permitting. Please continue to save the date. Volunteers will be needed for carpentry and electrical work on the structure. We are also looking for volunteers with artistic talent to refresh and repair the statues. Please contact GK Rob if you can help.
