The Lake Current - Council News & Info - May 4
Here's the latest on what's happening at our council!
News Updates & Info

A few notices and reminders right up front :
  • Please bring in your payment tomorrow (Friday) for our upcoming trip to Mohegan Sun casino (5/13 - $40) and the Citi Field Mets Game excursion (6/17 - $100). PGK Bobby Palazzo will be collecting the money at our Cinco de Mayo Fiesta on Friday. (More on that below.)

  • We're getting noticed! We continue to receive positive publicity for our $5000 donation to St. James the Apostle parish from the proceeds of our Men's Beefsteak Fundraiser. Click here to see the story in the Putnam County Press/Times, and click here to see the write-up on Supreme Council's "Knights In Action" web page.

  • Thanks to all of our members who cooked, prepared, served, and cleaned up for our Ladies Auxiliary Appreciation Dinner last Thursday. Our council's men served the ladies a delicious filet mignon dinner to thank them for all that they do for our council, and the many works of charity and community service that they do. They are a great credit to our council and our Order.

  • We could use a few more members (both brothers and Ladies Auxiliary) to staff the tables in front of our council tomorrow from 1-5 p.m. for the Carmel Spring Fair. We will have the opportunity to promote membership and the good works of our council to the public during this event.

May Membership Meeting - Wednesday, May 10th

Our monthly general business meeting will be this coming Wednesday, May 10th, with dinner served at 6:30 p.m., and the meeting beginning promptly at 7:30 p.m.

Among other things, we will be discussing the upcoming officer elections. Any Third Degree member in good standing who wishes to run for a council office should speak with Nominating Committee Chairman Mike Rama as soon as possible.

All members are invited to join us to find out what's going on and get involved with our very active and engaged council. Our monthly meetings usually take no more than an hour, and are the best way to have your voice heard and get involved with our many fun charitable and family activities.
Summer Kickoff BBQ & Founder's Award - Friday, May 26th

We are proud to announce that we will be honoring Russ Lavan as the winner of our 2017 Founder's Award, which is named in honor of  founding Grand Knight Angelo R. Trongone. A Knight for 45 years, Russ is a founding member of our council and has served in a variety of leadership positions and service roles, most recently as Financial Secretary.

Our family BBQ will feature burgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken, sausage and peppers, sliced steak, corn on the cob, baked beans, salads, desserts, and more! All for only $20 for adults, $10 for kids, and kids 6 and under eat free.

We'll need a headcount for food purchase and planning, so please let GK Rob or PGK Mike McDonald know if you're coming NO LATER THAN  May 21! We will have sign-up sheets for volunteers and for guests at our monthly membership meeting on Wednesday, May 10th.

  • The Patterson Little League is hosting another great "Adults' Night Out" at Thunder Ridge on Saturday, May 13th. The event features live music by The Even Stephens Band, light food, cash bar, and a sports memorabilia auction, all for only $15 per person. Unlike most other baseball programs, which receive funding from their local municipalities, PLL is a completely self-funded organization, and they maintain their own facilities. Proceeds from this year's fundraiser will go to replace the infield on one of their ball fields. Please support this excellent youth sports program that serves our community.

  • REMINDER: We are hosting Second and Third Degree Exemplifications on Sunday, June 11. Candidates should report by 2:30 p.m. properly attired. The Second Degree will begin promptly at 3 p.m. followed immediately thereafter by the Third Degree. First and Second Degree members wishing to participate should contact Chancellor Ralph Fleischman immediately to ensure a place in the degrees. It is an honor for our council to be selected to host a Third Degree. All Third Degree members should make a special point to attend as spectators and support our brothers on their journey to full Knighthood in our Order.

  • REMINDER: On Wednesday through Saturday July 19-22, we will once again turn out in force to volunteer at The Feast of St. James, our parish's annual fundraiser and family festival. Council members will help in many ways, including as casino workers, in beverage sales, working security, staffing vendor booths, and more. Please save the dates and watch for an announcement from the church that the volunteer sign-up book is available in the parish office.
