First Elected Deaf Female Presidents

NCBDA - NC Black Deaf Advocates

Stephanie Scott, the first Black Deaf woman to serve as the President of North Carolina Black Deaf Advocates from 2003 to 2005.

She graduated from North Carolina School for the Deaf, Morganton in 1992. After graduating with a Masters in Deaf Education from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., she served as a Deaf Services Specialist for the North Carolina Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Wilson, NC for more than 15 years.

NCAD - NC Association of the Deaf

Born in the Bronx, New York City, Eileen "Mikki" Simpson received her undergraduate degree from Augustana College in Illinois, took teacher training at Gallaudet University and received a Masters from the California State University at Northridge ("CSUN"). Mikki Simpson worked at NCSD in a variety of teaching and administrative positions until her retirement. She was named the first female president of the NC Association of the Deaf in 1981.

NCASLTA - NC American Sign Language Teachers Association

Pamela Epps is originally from California which her family eventually moved to NC. She graduated from the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf, Wilson in 1980. After graduating from Johnson Community College, Pamela worked for the Federal Government for 34 years. Pamela was elected as the first Deaf female President of North Carolina American Sign Language Teachers Association

in 2004.
