We are grateful to share that another set of twin babies were delivered at our hospital! Denesiya Malekano, a 39 year old mother from Msundwe trading center has been married over 20 years. Already a mother of 4, she came to our hospital and delivered 2 beautiful, healthy baby girls. “I was happy when the doctor told me that I was carrying twins because I know it’s a gift from God. The same God who gave me these bablies will also help me and my husband to take good care of them,” Denesiya shares. She continues in talking about how CLI has all the needed equipment for safe delivery and how we were able to tell her early on in her pregnancy that she was carrying twins. “Even when we get sick, we receive appropriate treatment at CLI’s outpatient department. May God bless people in America for building this hospital in my community. Lives are being saved!”

It’s difficult for those of us living in the United States to truly understand how incredibly different life is for many in the world. Even if we have firsthand experience of what conditions are like in some of the poorest countries, we still can’t fully appreciate what it’s like to live every day as many people do around the globe. The state of life in Malawi is as limited as anywhere there is. As one can imagine, these limitations often affect the most vulnerable in the most significant ways. At Child Legacy, we have a dedicated Under 5 Clinic that provides free healthcare to children from infancy up to 5 years of age. Access to our services is an essential part of what allows these particular patients we treat to have the best chance for healthy development and long lives.

Recently, in a single day, we had 50 mothers bring their children in for immunizations, nutrition support, oral re-hydration therapy, as well as care for Malaria and prevention treatments! The mortality rate amongst the youngest children is incredibly high in Malawi. Despite governmental steps taken to provide care for this demographic, there are real limitations to treatment options based on the overwhelming amount of those in need as well as difficulties families encounter in reaching locations that could potentially help due to many of them living in remote areas.

At CLI, we are working tirelessly to provide the necessary and best care possible at our hospital and even go so far as a family’s doorstep through our community outreach programs. Health workers from our hospital go to great lengths to reach these remote villages every week and do their best to replicate the care offered at our clinic. One of the mothers, Violet C., shares her experience saying, “I thank Child Legacy for building this hospital in our community and for providing quality healthcare to our kids and our families. Before the construction of this hospital, we used to walk a very long distance in search of medical treatment. As a result, many children were missing immunizations crucial for their growth and health.” It is an honor to help give peace of mind and hope to these wonderful mothers that want the best for their children! Malaria continues to be the number one health issue faced in Malawi. At the Child Legacy Community Hospital, we see 700-1,000 patients monthly facing this disease– and the sheer number of cases seems to be on the rise. Father of 5 year old Overton brought him to the hospital after the little boy was experiencing the common symptoms of headache, fever, and loss of appetite. They immediately were able to see a doctor at our hospital where tests were run that showed he was positive and that his blood count showed a bacterial infection.

Overton received Malaria medication, antibiotics, and painkillers to aggressively address his condition. The little boy said, “I like to play football with my friends, but since I have not been feeling well, I am unable to play. I miss my friends.” This story is one seen far too often in this country, and we are grateful to be positioned by our partners to support Overton’s recovery. We earnestly pray for this sweet young boy and the many that face similar circumstances.
