The Messenger of St. Mark's | Epiphany | January 6, 2023

For your thought:

When they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at its rising, until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy.

--Matthew 2:9-10

SAINT MARK'S MISSION & OUTREACH

The Feast of the Epiphany

The Feast of the Epiphany (celebrated Sunday, January 8 at St. Mark's) honors the story - in the gospel of Matthew - of the three kings' visit to Jesus. They bestowed gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

The first day of the Epiphany season, also happens to be the first day of the Mardi Gras season, which precedes Lent. King Cake is a New Orleans tradition that dates back to the 1870s. The cake is colorful and typically has a plastic baby Jesus inside. The cake is shared by all, but the person who discovers the small plastic baby in one of the king cakes will become one of the Magi for the day, or wise ones, and be asked to offer a simple toast in the Parish Hall.

Also, there’ll be a scavenger hunt around the church to locate a doll baby Jesus.

Come to worship this Sunday, then enjoy the Feast of the Epiphany -- St. Mark's style. This joyous event will occur in the Parish Hall after the liturgy concludes. It is sure to be a time cherished by all, and all ages.

Young(ish)-Adult Meetup

What: Young(ish)-Adult Meetup

Who: Young(ish) Adults (Late Teens-Late 30's)

When: Sunday, January 15th 1PM

Where: Holmes Pizza Arcade (205 Silver Ave SW Suite G)

St. Mark's has the blessing of being an intergenerational faith community with members in each of the 10 decades of life. This gives each of us opportunities to connect both with people in similar phases of life AND to connect and learn from people in the generations that precede and follow us. These opportunities for friendship and mentoring relationships within and across age groups are invaluable to our spiritual life and growth. On Sunday, January 15th we invite all "Youngish Adults" (late teens-late 30's) to gather with Deacon David & Mother Sylvia to initiate and nurture friendships over pizza and pinball. We hope you'll join us!
