Olly olly oxen free!
This phrase, used by most of us when playing children’s games like hide-and-seek, meant that anyone still hiding could safely come out into the open. It was a call for everyone to
come back together
.
After a summer that rightfully provided opportunities for folks to travel, relax, or simply ‘unplug’ for a while, September will be a month where we get back into full swing as a congregation. Please note the many upcoming opportunities for Christian Education, fellowship, worship, and service.
We’ll get things kicked off with our annual Pancake Breakfast on
RALLY DAY
,
Sunday, September 10
. That day also marks the beginning of a new church school year.
I’m very pleased to let you know that a
Confirmation Class
will be held on Sundays after worship for our 8
th
– 12
th
graders. Currently, we have four youth in that category,
Haley Brobston, Parker Brobston, Jesper Ohlson, and Sophia Ohlson
. I will be co-leading this class in conjunction with youth and leaders from Fellowship Congregational Church (UCC). It promises to be a very interesting and fruitful experience. There will be opportunities for church members to help. For instance, each youth will have a mentor from the congregation.
Please keep these youth in your prayers
as they explore their own journey of faith and come to a place to decide whether or not to make a profession of faith to become "active" members of the congregation. [Children, in our denomination, are classified as "Baptized members" until they come to a point to make a profession of faith before the Session and congregation.]
We are only fully who we can be as College Hill when everyone actively participates in the life and mission of this truly special congregation.
Olly, olly, oxen free!
I also encourage each of us to respond to the devastation in Texas in whatever ways you can.
Blessings,
Rev. Todd Freeman

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry
by Gabrielle Zevin
Author Eowyn Ivey's comments on the novel,
The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry
by Gabrielle Zevin, perfectly sum up why it's an excellent choice for a bunch of book-lovers: “This novel has humor, romance, a touch of suspense, but most of all love--love of books and bookish people and, really, all of humanity in its imperfect glory." And that's why it's this month's selection for the College Hill Book Club - all are welcome to join us!
This book is available at book stores, your local library, and other book sources.
Book Club
will
meet
for lunch and discussion at
Panera Bread
(1624 E. 15

Pledge Reminder from
Finance & Stewardship Team
College Hill members and friends, our giving has been slow this summer, but fortunately our ministry teams' spending has also been under budget.
That spending will likely increase as Christian Education begins purchasing curriculum and Music and Worship prepares for services in the fall and winter.
Please consider this a gentle reminder to get your pledge up to date.
Thank you for being a blessing to College Hill!

Something for the Spirit
FLOOD
By Steve Garnaas-Holmes
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and through the rivers,
they shall not overwhelm you
For I am the Holy One your God,
and I love you.
—Isaiah 43.2,4
In the flood that is this life
some waters will sweep your home away
and others stop at your doorstep.
There is no choosing, no deserving
in their rising or receding.
On any given day one of us is picnicking,
another swimming for our lives.
For all of us some day waters will rise,
and with them,
beside us in the water a reaching out,
above the swirling flood a reaching out.
So many reaching out.
This is what we have to stand on.

College Hill
Recycling Bins
Recycling is an expression of stewardship of the wonderful planet that we enjoy as our home.
Our recycling center is located in the cabinets outside the Fellowship Hall. We recycle paper, cans, compact fluorescent lamps, batteries, and printer cartridges.
We also collect plastic and paper shopping bags for reuse by organizations such as Emergency Infant Services and Iron Gate. (Please, no produce bags or newspaper bags, as we no longer have an outlet for recycling them.)

Penny Fund Donations Welcome
