Barbara joined College Hill with her father and brother in 1963, following her mother who joined in 1961.

Her passing closes an important chapter in the life and ministry of College Hill.

A special thank you to so many congregation members throughout the years that helped take care of many of Barbara's needs.

A memorial service at the church will be announced at a future date.
Word From the Pastor
What a joy it is to be more fully open to in-person worship here at the church! We are truly blessed in so many ways here at College Hill, especially in the authentic, caring relationships being formed and renewed after such a tumultuous couple of years away from each other.

With many new members, in addition to just now getting back to in-person gatherings at the church, it’s getting a bit harder to get to know everyone. Therefore, let us all continue to strive to build meaningful relationships with one another.

We are still going through a process of transition, even transformation. That's not always easy, so know how much I and the Session appreciate your patience as we move into new phases of being the church together!

Later in the month, I invite the entire congregation and friends to my home on Sunday, May 28, for the Memorial Day Weekend Worship & Picnic. We will try hard to accommodate those with mobility issues, using a golf cart. For all the pertinent details, please read the article in this Newsletter.

NOTEThere will be NO worship or church school at the church that morning. If you have any concerns about this, please speak with me.

If you would like to carpool out to my home, cars will be leaving the church parking lot by 10:30 am. This will be a wonderful opportunity simply to relax with one another, worship outdoors, share fellowship, eat, and get to know each other better. We will have a rain plan.
Blessings,
Rev. Todd
May 8
As has been our tradition, carnations will be handed out to all females, of all ages, in the congregation.
Note: The church office will be closed on

Carpool:
Available from the church parking lot. Last carpool will leave at 10:30 am.

Rain Plan:
If the service needs to be moved due to weather concerns, that decision will be communicated through email and Facebook (and phone if need be) no later than noon on Friday, May 27th.

"If God Is Love, Don't Be a Jerk: Finding Faith That Makes Us Better Humans"

by John Pavlovitz

We will continue our weekly study of this important book. One of 18 chapters will be discussed each Sunday. Each begins with a video introduction of that chapter by the author.

You can join at any time during the study because each chapter is self contained enough that you don't need the previous chapter to understand the next. SO.. PLEASE JOIN US. Look for the weekly email with the zoom link.

John Pavlovitz, author of A Bigger Table, was our Harold E. Hill Lecture Series in 2018.

Birthday Endowment Fund

A meaningful way to ring in the New Year and celebrate your Birthday, is to donate an amount equal to your new age to the Endowment Fund.

This donation is also a wonderful way to honor others such as children, grandchildren and friends and allows the church to have funds available for special projects.

Anniversary Celebration
Sunday, May 8

July 13th will mark the 16th Anniversary of Dr. Kim Childs beginning as College Hill’s Director of Music Ministry!

Please read the article about him (below), which gives his life history and shows us how lucky we are to have him with us!

To celebrate, we’re going to have a party on Sunday, May 22nd, after worship in Fellowship Hall. (We were unable to celebrate his 15th last year due to Covid.) There will be cupcakes and a few surprises.

We would like to give Kim a token of our appreciation (cash) so would appreciate any donations. (Please make checks out to College Hill with “Kim Childs” in the memo.) We need the donations no later than Thursday, May 19th. So, let’s celebrate Kim!

Next Step in our Help for
Afghan Neighbors:

The vast majority of our Afghan neighbors have arrived in Tulsa (nearly 750 of our 800). College Hill has donated a Narthex and van full of food, clothes and supplies to help.

Now though, our neighbors need core volunteer “wrap-around” groups to help them orient to Tulsa and through whom to report needs as they come up. Pursuant to Session approval,
Outreach & Mission invites you to participate in a College Hill “wrap-around” group to support an Afghan family in a number of ways that range from minimal time commitment to nearly a part time job.

Our service might not be needed for months, or it could be needed in days. Having a “wrap-around” group ready to deploy will let us meet the call when it comes.

Click here to learn more about “wrap-around” group roles.

After that, click on this link to sign up to join a group.

If you want to know more about this initiative, please (click name to) reach out to:
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) Emergency Response to Ukraine War:

To support emergency relief for those fleeing Ukraine, you may designate monetary gifts via text, online, or by phone:

You may also pick up a flyer on the table in the Narthex, that provides all the details.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month

This past year has continued to affect so many with chronic stress, leading to mental health issues. If that is true for you, know that you are NOT alone!

Let us all pay extra attention to our own mental well-being as we go through our current life and congregation transitions, and pray for and support those who are particularly struggling with depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Thanks!

There is a new Presbyterian Mental Health Network. For a list of downloadable ministry resources:
Ever thought of a green burial?

Check out “A Way for Nature to Rest in Peace” in the April edition of National Geographic.
Briefly, it highlights the Indiangrass Preserve in southeast Texas – 18,000 acres restored and protected as a nature preserve.

The latest project of the Katy Prairie Conservancy aims to restore and preserve the natural state of land that will welcome the living – and the dead. Not to mention urban sprawl, Houston.
50 acres will be for so-called green burials. No caskets or concrete liners used. The dead won’t be embalmed. Each body will wear only biodegradable clothing and a shroud.

Green burials also allow root systems to trap the carbon released from human bodies during decomposition. Locally, notes Green Chair Mark Miller, “Green Funeral and Forest Burials for Family and Pets” is offered by Dillon Family Services, 5800 S. Lewis Ave., (918) 245-4142.
Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
NO MOW MAY!

Several municipalities in Wisconsin have adopted a “No Mow May” ordinance to protect the bee population. Its impact measured an 500% increase in pollinator population, according to researchers at Lawrence University, Montreal. Or consider leaving buffer areas to allow pollinator plants (weeds?) continued growth.

Keep up the green work!
Something for the Spirit
"Prune Me"
by Steve Garnaas-Holmes

"I am the true vine, and God is the vine grower. God removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit God prunes to make it bear more fruit.” —John 15.1-2

Loving God, Vinegrower of Life,
I bring to mind with gratitude those ways you bear fruit in me,
where your grace blossoms into blessing.
Receive my thanks.
. . .
Wise vinedresser, show me what in me does not bear fruit,
what impedes the flow of your grace in me:
fears and resentments, desires, habits and attachments
that do not bear the fruit of your love,
dead branches that no longer serve you.
Help me see.
. . .
God of mercy, prune me with your grace.
Help me release all that does not bear fruit,
and let go of what diminishes your love in me.
Help me repent.
. . .
God of peace,
help me trust your spirit flowing in me,
blossoming forth with your glory,
bearing the fruit of your presence.
Help me love.
Amen.
