A very big
THANK YOU
to everyone who worked to coordinate our
8
th
Annual Memorial Day Weekend Worship & Picnic
on May 26 at my home.
I always find worship in an outdoor setting very spiritual – and this year the service was led by our youth!! There was lots of participatory singing and a wonderful message about love from
Haley Brobston
. A special expression of gratitude to
Gini Fox
for working with our youth to prepare this service, and to those on the
Worship & Music
and
Fellowship
ministry teams (Bill Nole and Clay Finck-Ward, moderators, respectively). It was a great morning and afternoon (with about 82 folks) of relaxed worship, fellowship, great food, and trampoline jumping.
Relevant and active congregations rely not only on their many programs and events, including worship, but also in opportunities for
fellowship – the authenticity and genuine relationships and interactions among church members and friends
.
Thanks to those of you who have volunteered time and energy to participate in this year’s annual Tulsa Pride events, including the
Pride Parade
on Saturday, June 1, and the
Information Table
at the Equality Center throughout that day. Thanks to those who coordinated these two opportunities for College Hill to share our message of God’s inclusive love with the
LGBTQ community
.
We will be participating with University United Methodist Church to present
Vacation Church School
from June 17-19. Also, take note of our
Ice Cream Social
on June 23.
Many of you will be taking a well-deserved vacation in the months ahead – so have fun, get some rest, enjoy life and the beauty of creation. I look forward to a summer with opportunities to gather together to participate in the blessings of worship, education, mission, fellowship, and the development of true community.
Blessings,
Rev. Todd

8th Annual Memorial Day Weekend
Worship & Picnic at Angel Acres
(Rev. Freeman's home)
May 26, 2019
Worship was led by our YOUTH
|
The youth led a camp-style service filled with lots of participatory singing. Thanks to Michelle Brobston for providing guitar accompaniment!
|
Haley Brobston presented an inspiring message on the different meanings of the word "love."

We’re a little safer at
College Hill
thanks to
CPR and AED
(automated electronic defibrillator)
training
given by
Susan West
in April, to those who work directly with the children of the church. Participants included
Alicia Odum, Wyneth Roulet, Gretchen Hrachovec,
along with
our
nursery staff members,
Meghan Lovett
and
Kye May
.
|
Susan demonstrates how to help a choking child.
|
Alicia, Gretchen, Wyneth, Kye and Meghan practice
life-saving skills with infants.
|
Start that heart! Meghan and Kye set up the AED, while Alicia continues CPR on her adult 'victim'.
|
That’s not all
Susan
has done to
enhance our safety.
She has
updated
our
First Aid kit, removed
possible
hazards
in the
nursery
, and has seen to the
replacement
of
outdated fire extinguishers.
Soon to come: a new safety form for parents to complete for their children.
Thank you, Susan,
for all of these preventative measures!

Kathy Davis
School’s out! And Kathy Davis, who teaches Algebra 2 at Sand Springs Middle School, has mixed emotions. She never imagined that rising flood waters would cancel out the last few days of classes…and her final exam. Students can take the exam later in the principal’s office, but Kathy will miss the chance to see first-hand whether her charges really absorbed weeks of instruction in equations.
With a laugh, Kathy says that majoring in math has meant that she’s never had to look for a job in Oklahoma. After graduating from Northeastern State (BS) and TU (MS), Kathy was snapped up by Citgo Petroleum. After a few years, she felt God calling her to work with young people. An offer to teach immediately came from Sperry Middle School, and 16 years later, the Sand Springs system came calling. She’s been there for 12 years, and plans to teach just one year more. (Take your stand, Kathy! Work can be an earthly joy, but retirement is heaven!)
In her spare time, Kathy enjoys gardening, reading, playing with her 5 rescue pets, and maintaining long-time friendships. Until recently, she was an active member at First Christian Church (Disciples) in Tulsa. Over the past 12 years she has played many roles there, from Sunday School teacher to choir member, to bell-ringer, to Moderator of the Board (which functions similarly to our Session).
Despite Kathy’s sly sense of humor (usually directed at herself), she is very serious about her purpose in life: to listen to God; to live in the present moment; and to work for a world that values and treats all people with equal care and respect. She finds that the worship service at College Hill matches her personal outlook and inspires her to grow in her faith. Kathy, we look forward to enjoying your sense of humor and involvement in the life of our congregation!

Book Study
Small Group
Tuesday, June 24
6:30 pm
Not to be confused with the College Hill Book Club, we have another small group called the Book Study Group.
The Evolution of God
by Robert Wright
"Through the prisms of archaeology, theology, and evolutionary psychology, Wright's findings overturn basic assumptions about Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and are sure to cause controversy. He explains why spirituality has a role today, and why science, contrary to conventional wisdom, affirms the validity of the religious quest."
We select one or two books a year to read and discuss in depth over several monthly Tuesday evening sessions. (typically on the fourth Tuesday)
