A very big THANK YOU to everyone who worked to coordinate our 6th Annual Memorial Day Weekend Worship & Picnic on May 28 at my home. I always find worship in an outdoor setting very spiritual. A special expression of gratitude to those on the Worship & Music and Fellowship ministry teams (P.J. Brobston and Clay Finck-Ward, moderators, respectively).
Please take a look at the pictures in this newsletter and (click) to see our Facebook page. It was a great morning and afternoon (with about 80 folks!) of relaxed worship, fellowship, food, trampoline jumping, canoeing and some fishing.
There are also some good pictures of the recently completed Vacation Church School (VCS). Special thanks to Stefanie Olson (and all the volunteers) for coordinated this year’s event!
I am one of those who believe that relevant and active congregations rely not so much on its many programs and events, but its fellowship – the authenticity and genuine relationships and interactions among church members and friends.
Like all congregations, we call ourselves a “community of faith.” While addressing issues of faith is obviously crucial to any church, a congregation does so at its own peril if it does not work equally hard to emphasize the importance of building and maintaining a sense of authentic community.
We continue to be blest with new members. But how many of us know (or remember) everyone by name? I struggle with that at times, as well. But that’s a great place to start, and that’s why I think wearing name badges is so important. I have finally learned to not be embarrassed to admit I have forgotten a name and simply re-ask that person.
Many of you will be taking a well-deserved vacation in the months ahead – so have fun, get some rest, and enjoy life. I look forward to a summer with opportunities to gather together to participate in the blessings of worship, education, mission, fellowship, and the development of true community.

Don chose from a young age to dedicate his life to serving others. Through his ministry and activism, he has touched thousands of lives, spanning multiple generations. We will forever be grateful for his service to the community.
Don will be missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those he touched.

Recycle and Donation Center
We have re-purposed the cabinets in the hallway outside of Fellowship Hall for use as a place to deposit recycling and donations.
Recycle bins will accommodate paper, cans, plastic bags, compact fluorescent lamps, batteries, and printer cartridges.
Donation bins are also available for diapers and baby care products, dry goods and hygiene items, and school supplies.

Come march with us in the 2017 Tulsa Pride Parade! College Hill will have a truck in the parade that needs riders. We need plenty more walkers, and a large, supportive crowd for those who cannot make the entire parade. Marchers and riders should arrive at the parade start at 13th and Boston around 5:30 pm. College Hill will again have an informational booth
indoors in the
air conditioned Exhibition Hall during the Pride Festival. We are looking for volunteers to sign up for one-hour time slots to greet festival attendees and provide information about College Hill. We also need volunteer(s) for setup and take down. There will be seating provided along with a table in a 10x10 booth.

CHANCEL CHOIR
The Chancel Choir of College Hill Presbyterian Church rehearses Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the second story choral room (next to the church office) for singing, fellowship and fun! Rehearsals have begun – and we invite YOU to be a part! If you are a singer and would like to sing with the Chancel Choir, we are welcoming new members. Please contact the Director of Music at kim-childs@utulsa.edu or 918-230-2770.
The Chancel Choir will be in recess from June 25 through August 13. Various soloists, instrumentalists and ensembles will be performing throughout the summer months during Sunday morning worship. Wednesday night rehearsals will resume August 9.
BELLISSIMO HANDBELL ENSEMBLE
BELLissimo Handbell Ensemble of College Hill Presbyterian Church has bell-ringing rehearsals Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. If you are interested in playing in this fun ensemble (permanent member or substitute), please contact Director of Music for more information. CHPC Kids Connection
Summer Volunteer Opportunities!
From July 2 to August 27 (9 Sundays) the Christian Education Ministry team is looking for 9 different volunteers to help Kye oversee the children’s Kids Connection program from 11:00 to 12:00 during worship.
Kye has been working with the children since last Fall and is quite accustomed working with them. So, prospective volunteers can expect the responsibility for oversight to be a joint effort. If you choose to volunteer, this is an opportunity to get to know our church’s darling children or learn something new about the ones you already know.
You can share an important Sunday school lessons from your childhood, teach them a song or a craft, tell a story, share a talent, or just hang out with them for the hour. What is Pentecost? Why Does It Matter?

What is Pentecost? For Christians, Pentecost is a holiday on which we commemorate the coming of the Holy Spirit on the early followers of Jesus.
Before the events of the first Pentecost, which came a few weeks after Jesus’ death and resurrection, there were followers of Jesus, but no movement that could be meaningfully called “the church.” Thus, from an historical point of view, Pentecost is the day on which the church was started. This is also true from a spiritual perspective, since the Spirit brings the church into existence and enlivens it. Thus Pentecost is the church’s birthday.

Our next Book Club selection is the surprise French bestseller (translated), The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery. With an upscale Parisian apartment building as the background, the story is told in double narrative - one by the nondescript 50-something concierge and the other by a 12-year-old resident, both of whom are much more than meets the eye. As described in the Huffington Post, "The Elegance of the Hedgehog is about love. But not the sappy, head-over-heels variety. Rather, it's about the love of one's friends. It's about the love you can experience when you connect with strangers. And it's about the possibility—but just that—of romantic love."
The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery is available at book stores, your local library, and other book sources. Book Club will meet for lunch and discussion on Sunday, June 25th, at Panera Bread (1624 E. 15th St., just west of Utica on the south side of 15th St.) immediately following worship service (about 12:15pm).

Emergency Food Pantry. We will again be collecting canned vegetables and canned fruit, which are especially needed, as well as other food items.
Cash donations are also always welcome.

This donation is also a wonderful way to honor others such as children, grandchildren and friends and allows the church to have funds available for special projects.
Checks can be made payable to College Hill and marked "Birthday Fund" on the memo portion of the check, and placed in the basket on the Narthex information table.

Flower Chart
M
embers are encouraged to bring flowers to decorate the sanctuary for worship services. Please sign up on the Flower Chart, which is posted on the bulletin board in Fellowship Hall. Your dedication will be announced in that Sunday's Worship Bulletin.
Flowers can be purchased from any store or bought from your own yard or garden. Please bring them in two containers the morning of the service for which you have signed up.
