Christ Church Reads!
Saturday, March 3, 9:30 a.m.
|
We will continue our Lenten journey with reading from Rabbi Jonathan Sacks book,
Not in God's Name: Confronting Religious Violence. To quote from the Amazon description: "In this powerful and timely book, one of the most admired and authoritative religious leaders of our time tackles the phenomenon of religious extremism and violence committed in the name of God. If religion is perceived as being part of the problem, Rabbi Sacks argues, then it must also form part of the solution." We will read the first 50 pages for our meeting on Saturday, March 3 at 9:30 am in the St. Mark's Room. Come join us even if you have not done the reading!
All are welcome to join us - for more information, contact
Peggy Baggaley

Faith and Sacred Music Forum
Sunday, March 11, 11:15 a.m.
|
Join conductor George Mathew on Sunday, March 11 in an exploration of Johann Sebastian Bach's Church cantatas and their foundational chorales as liturgical music and, in particular, Cantata BWV 4, Christ Lag in Todesbanden (Christ Lay in the Bonds of Death). What liturgical and spiritual insight might Bach and these ancient hymns shed on our own experience today?
George Mathew is the Founder and Artistic Director of Music for Life International and has emerged as one of the leading forces in the classical music world, bringing symphonic music to focus on global humanitarian issues and crises. In recent seasons, he has made appearances in the US, India, Jordan, Panama, Morocco, Australia and South Africa as conductor, pianist and ambassador for transformative action through music. Since 2006, George and Music for Life International have presented seven humanitarian concerts at Carnegie Hall, which have brought together musicians from over 100 of the world's most distinguished ensembles including the New York Philharmonic, MET Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and Berlin Philharmonic.

End Hunger 3.6
Saturday, March 10, 9:00 a.m.
|
The Interfaith Food Pantry of the Oranges is assembling a team of volunteers to participate in Madison Rotary's End Hunger 3.6 event on Saturday, March 1o. Volunteer slots are 9-11 a.m. or 12-2 p.m. and the event is held at Drew University's Simon Forum (field house). Event coordinators are seeking 800 individuals and families to prepare 250,000 pre-packaged meals. These meals will go to numerous food pantries and shelters in New Jersey, including IFPO and our food pantry network, MEND. The name End Hunger 3.6 refers to the fact that every 3.6 seconds someone in the world dies of starvation. In New Jersey, over one million people are living below the poverty line, while one in five New Jersey children is hungry and relies on food stamps for meals. This is a great family volunteer activity, children should be 10 years old. For information and to register, please contact
Peggy Baggaley.

| CHRIST CHURCH NURSERY SCHOOL |
|
|
|
CCNS recently held registration for the 2018-2019 school. As we begin planning for the upcoming school year, we continue with this year's activities. Our school is always busy with excitement but things are "eggs"tra special now since our baby chick eggs are due to arrive. We look forward to watching the eggs hatch and caring for the baby chicks as they arrive. We also enjoy every chance to play outside in our amazing playgrounds. In our Pre-K classrooms, we continue to prepare our young students for Kindergarten as we work to perfect and practice new skills. Learning is always fun at CCNS! Limited openings remain in a handful of classes. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more, please call the school at 973-379-6549 or visit the school's website.
