Wastewater Department

We would like to remind the residents of Millinocket to please NOT flush wipes, paper towels, grease, plastics, Q-tips or anything other than toilet paper into the sewer system. Even the "flushable" wipes will clog the sewer system. These items are causing extreme plugs to the sewer system and costly maintenance to our pumping stations. We would like to thank the residents for this consideration.

East Millinocket Police Department



EMPD has responded to 10,520 calls for service to date in 2023 with more than 5,495 of those calls being in the Town of Millinocket.

Officers have arrested or summonsed more than 525 individuals to date and conducted more than 2960 motor vehicle stops.

We are excited to have Ofc Clayton and K9 Derby back on patrol after their completion of Phase 1 of K9 training. Ofc Clayton has had the chance to show off K9 Derby at a few public events in Millinocket in recent weeks. K9 Derby is going to be a huge asset to the entire Katahdin Region.  

Ofc Edson recently assisted the Katahdin Federal Credit Union in speaking with their employees about their actions in the event of a robbery and things they could do to better help us investigate and to keep themselves safe.

Ofc Edson recently became certified by the NHTSA as a child seat safety technician. Ofc Edson will be making himself available during community events to assist in safety seat inspections or installation. Also, this is a FREE service and anyone looking for help or advice with a child safety seat can contact Ofc Edson at any time.

The Millinocket Marathon was again a HUGE success for our region. EMPD provided a large amount of officers for the event. We also worked in conjunction with Penobscot EMA, Penobscot RCC, Maine Warden Service, Maine State Police Bomb Team, Millinocket and East Millinocket Fire Departments to provide law enforcement and EMS services. We were again able to run a command post for race operations, which was very effective. We did see an increase in race related calls compared to years past, which is expected due to the continued growth of this event. Most importantly, it was again a safe and enjoyable day.

Officers also had a nice afternoon with Santa at the Lots of Love tree dedication in Veterans Memorial Park. 

Our region has began to see a very wide variety of severe winter weather. All public safety departments do our best during these events but we want to remind the public to be patient and allow extra time when traveling. Also, as snow season arrives please remember winter parking rules and bans are in effect. Vehicles WILL BE towed if they are hindering snow removal efforts.

Public Works Department

We’ve had a couple plowable snowstorms already this year. Unfortunately for all of us, the ground is not frozen yet and tree belts and roadsides remain soft. This makes damaged turf inevitable. We must clear the roadways in a way that leaves ample room for future storms. To do this, the wing will tend to be past the edge of the hot top, potentially doing damage. This damage will be repaired in the springtime before the growing season begins.

The crew will be busy clearing trees and debris from town roadways following the wind and rainstorm on December 18^th.

The large dump trailer we use to haul snow is being overhauled with patch panels being welded in to repair rust and a new paint job. I want to thank Tom Creehan and Mike York for initiating that project and seeing it through.

We are continuing to trim brush and limbs that are causing line of sight obstructions and growing into the rights-of-way(s) around town. Currently we are focusing on limbs that risk damage to our plow trucks.

With winter fast approaching I want to remind everyone that our trucks need lots of room to maneuver and have many inherent blind spots. Please give us room to clear your streets.

The 2024 Transfer Station use stickers are currently available at the town office. Your 2023 sticker expires on December 31^st.

The brush pile has been ground into mulch and is being hauled away by Northland Bark Mulch. We encountered a few problems with the size of some of the material in the pile. Going forward, nothing longer than 8 feet can be dropped off at the brush pile.



Recycling is being accepted at the Transfer Station. We can make the Town money from recycling vs. spending money on waste disposal.

Fire/EMS Department



Effective Sunday Dec 17^th the fire department went to 2 person crews.

Fire Department provided dedicated Fire & EMS service to the Marathon on Saturday December 2^nd with assistance from East Millinocket Fire, East Millinocket Police, Penobscot EMA, Penobscot Regional Communication Center.

Katahdin Area Regional Firefighter 1 & 2 Class to start January 10^th with 35 students from the Katahdin area signed up. Chief Cote, will be the course coordinator and lead instructor for the program. Millinocket has 3 students attending the program.

On Duty Crews starting in January will be visiting business and facilities to update contact information for Fire Department Records & Databases.
