The Life We Save

by Father Casey

The tryptic is closed and covered for Lent, but hopefully you can recall two of the small pictures below the large image of the Transfigured Christ. On the left, Jesus is leading Peter, James, and John up the mountain, pointing toward the summit where his divinity will be revealed. On the right, Jesus is leading them, dazzled and dumbstruck, back down.

As amazing as it must have been to witness the Transfiguration, it didn’t help the disciples grasp any better the nature of Jesus’ mission. For not long after they leave the mountain, Jesus tells them how he will suffer, be rejected, and killed, but Peter would have none of it. The gospels say that Peter “rebuked” Jesus for talking this way.

Which results, of course, with Peter getting rebuked himself. “You don’t know what you’re talking about, Peter. Faithful Departed

Reagan Reece

We are sad to inform you of the death of Reagan Reece, daughter of Director of Operations Bracken Reece, this past Tuesday, February 20. Her death is a sudden shock to all, and the Reece family asks for our prayers in this extremely difficult time. We will notify the community when funeral arrangements have been made. Messages of love and sympathy can be sent to the church.

Rest eternal grant to her, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon her. May Reagan’s soul, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace and rise in glory. Amen.

This Weekend at the Fig

Fellowship of the Fig Game Night

Our ministry for Young Adults invites you to Join us Saturday, February 24, after The Table for a board game night in the Parlor. Dinner will be provided: grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup!

Food & Faith

This Lent at Transfiguration, we will be exploring how eating, something we do almost without thinking, is an act of discipleship. At Wednesday evening programs and Sunday morning Bible studies, we will discuss how our choices around food are related to abundance and scarcity, justice and equality, piety and hospitality. We hope you will join us around the table as we all strive to be better “companions” (ones who share bread) of one another and servants of God.

Sunday Food & Faith

Bible Study

Join us for Adult Sunday School during the season of Lent featuring a series of small-group Bible Studies. Class begins at 10:15am each Sunday. If you are unable to attend in person, you can join by Zoom and download the class material.

We will meet to reveal the groups on Sunday, February 25 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm in the Parlor. Bring a snack to share and your choice of beverage. Prior to this meeting please let us know your desire to participate so groups can be formed.

Embark on Your Own Lenten Journey

Friday and Saturday, March 8 and 9, Roper Hall will be transformed into a quiet, contemplative environment where participants are invited to move through a series of meditation centers. At each center, instructions guide participants through an individual, self-paced experience designed to connect them to the spirit of Lent. Participants may come when they want. Most take about an hour to complete a Lenten Journey of prayer and reflection.

Ramadan Dinner

Transfiguration will partner with Dialogue Institute Dallas to host a Ramadan Dinner with Muslim neighbors on Friday, March 15 at 6:30pm. This will be an opportunity to build knowledge and interfaith relationships in the holiest season for Muslims, and on the edge of our holiest week of the year. We will learn from one another, share a delicious meal made by our Muslim guests, and celebrate our distinct traditions. Transfiguration is one of nearly two dozen host sites for these meals during Ramadan this year.
