Land cover and forest health indicator datasets for central India using very-high resolution satellite data
Scientific Data, Oct. 25, 2023
Satellite imagery has been used to provide global and regional estimates of forest cover. Despite increased availability and accessibility of satellite data, approaches for detecting forest degradation have been limited. We produce a very-high resolution 3-meter (m) land cover dataset and develop a normalized index, the Bare Ground Index (BGI), to detect and map exposed bare ground within forests at 90 m resolution in central India.

Overcoming challenges in managing a high-risk pregnancy with placenta previa and newly diagnosed Bombay phenotype
Transfusion and Apheresis Science, Oct. 11, 2023
Management of patients with rare blood types can be extremely challenging and guidance for those presenting later in pregnancy is scarce. Our patient's gestational age precluded the use of well-known effective strategies, including hemoglobin optimization, autologous and directed donation, and procurement of large quantities of rare blood. Rather, our approach utilized multidisciplinary expertise and strategic planning to yield a successful outcome.

Leveling the Research Playing Field: Decolonizing Global Health Research Through Web-Based Platforms
Journal of Medical Internet Research, Oct. 31, 2023
Global health research has traditionally been rooted in colonialism, with some investigators in high-income countries leading and managing research and investigators in low- and middle-income countries serving as implementing partners. The Community Health Worker-Led Intervention for Vaccine Information and Confidence (CIVIC) Project, conducted in India and led jointly by India- and US-based investigators, leveraged web-based platforms to facilitate a more horizontal, inclusive, and balanced approach to partnerships between researchers and the community.

The Interplay of Gender and Perceived Sexual Orientation at the Bargaining Table: A social dominance and intersectionalist perspective
Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Nov., 2023
Our research breaks new ground by challenging well-established findings from the literature on gender and negotiations—particularly that women generally underperform men. By integrating research on MOSAIC theory, intersectional invisibility theory, and mismatching in negotiation, we suggest that this pattern may reverse for both lesbian women and gay men. Specifically, lesbian women may achieve better-than-expected negotiation outcomes, whereas gay men may achieve worse.
