From Diversity to Dynamism: How India's decentralized innovation strategy can reshape the global economy

ET Government, April 4, 2024

GKII Advisory Board member Raj Gupta discusses the unique role that India will have in changing the world market.

“At a time when global dynamics are rapidly shifting, the emergence of India as a pivotal player on the world stage is both anticipated and crucial. As nations navigate through a maze of economic, technological, and geopolitical changes, India’s path to prominence is often compared to the trajectory taken by China over the past few decades. However, this comparison, while instructive, can be misleading. India’s ascent should not be a mirror image of China’s journey. In contrast, India must carve out a distinct and adaptive path that acknowledges the unique challenges and opportunities of our times.”

Zero TB Kids in South Asia: Kunchok Dorjee Offers Video Update

NFCC, March 30, 2024

"Greetings from Kathmandu. I am pleased to share this video of our Zero TB Kids & Family program in South Asia. On one hand, it is heart wrenching to see TB infection rates of more than 50% in some of the schools and case rates of more than 2000 per 100,000 in many of the institutes we screened. On the other hand, it is gratifying to be providing cutting edge TB screening and prevention services to places and people where the need is dire."

Zero TB in Kids and Family (ZTB) is a global TB elimination program spearheaded by Johns Hopkins University in collaboration with organizations in South Asia. This video highlights the foundational study done by Dr. Dorjee that GKII's TB Free Schools initiative is built upon. This screening is carried out by JHU partner NFCC in Kathmandu. A qualitative study of mental health problems among children living in New Delhi slums

Transcult Psychiatry, Feb. 23, 2024

Children living in urban slums in India are exposed to chronic stressors that increase their risk of developing mental disorders, but they remain a neglected group. Effective mental health interventions are needed; however, it is necessary to understand how mental health symptoms and needs are perceived and prioritized locally to tailor interventions for this population. Mental health problems seemed highly interconnected, with experiences like harassment and fighting often described as both causes and impacts of mental health symptoms in children.

Post-campaign coverage evaluation of a measles and rubella supplementary immunization activity in five districts in India, 2019-2020

PLoS One, Mar. 29, 2024

In alignment with the Measles and Rubella (MR) Strategic Elimination plan, India conducted a mass measles and rubella vaccination campaign across the country between 2017 and 2020 to provide a dose of MR containing vaccine to all children aged 9 months to 15 years. Awareness of the MR vaccination campaign was high; however, campaign coverage varied by district and did not reach the elimination target of 95% coverage in any of the districts studied. Areas with lower coverage among younger children must be prioritized by strengthening the routine immunization programme and implementing strategies to identify and reach under-vaccinated children.
