The promise of good weather had 73 ladies show up at the
Reserve Club for Tuesday’s
LGA Stableford with a twist. Sadly, the promised sunshine did not come until the last three holes and left some women borrowing warmer clothes from their “Lost and Found”. The twist was each member of the foursome was assigned certain holes where her score had to count as one of the two best scores. Must have made too much pressure as the final tallies were unusually high for this net format.
Tuesday’s play for
LGA will be an 8:00 shotgun at
Players for a Gold Medal Qualifying round while some of the girls will be at Carolina National for the third
Ladybirds event.

Tuesday’s regattas were raced under a cloudy sky with swirling northerly winds with many gusts and holes.
Bill Miller
was our Race Officer today and he devised a two lap course starting to the new Red buoy from the Yellow and Green buoys line. The #1 Buoy was used firstly as an offset and then as a windward buoy on the second lap, after rounding the Yellow buoy downwind. The two long windward legs provided a challenge to both classes, 10
Nirvana
skippers and nine
Dragon 95
skippers.
The
Nirvana
racing produced six different winners in six races.
Ed Thompson
,
Harry Howard
,
Steve Anderman
,
Charlie Sweeney
and
Garett Van Koughnett
each won one race.
Dragon 95 racing was much less variable with
Dick Denzler
scoring four wins, and
Steve Shepherd
and
Peter Wilding
each winning one race.
Peter Wilding
was the Race Officer for Thursday's racing. The
Nirvana
and
Dragon 95
fleets sailed in strong westerly winds, with low humidity and bright sunshine, making this a beautiful Spring afternoon for some sailboat racing. The fleets started at the eastern end of the pond and sailed to the west end Yellow buoy and back to the start line, with a second lap to the Yellow buoy again. The course allowed skippers to use the whole pond to find the fast lanes with consistent wind.
In the
Nirvana
regattas
Mark Hamer
and
Charlie Sweeney
had two wins each with
Harry Howard
and
Garrett Van Koughnett
each winning one race.
In the
Dragon 95
class races,
Charlie Sweeney
and
Garrett Van Koughnett
each had two wins and
Larry Phelps
and
Dick Denzler
each had one win.
The current top
Nirvana & Dragon 65 Class
Spring Series Skippers are
- Garrett Van Koughnett 0.896
- Charlie Sweeney 0.891
- Harry Howard 0.874
The current top
Dragon 95 Class
Spring Series Skippers are
- Dick Denzler 0.918
- Peter Wilding 0.891
- Steve Shepherd 0.861

The ping pong club has more than 80 members and doubles play is every Monday 6:30-8:30 and every Wednesday 3:00 – 5:00 at the Community Center. It is open to all age groups and all levels of play. AARP considers ping pong one of the best activities for people as they age – light on the knees, not hard on the heart, and provides a genuine social setting. Come see for yourself - the St. James Ping Pong Club provides tables and balls (extra paddles are available for first time players to use).
If you are a beginner and wonder about joining, we have several players who will help with reviewing proper serving and other techniques. We can have a table devoted to practice and instruction sessions as needed and requested.
