MEETING KIDS WHERE THEY ARE
By Lisa Perry, Director, Soccer for Success
As a former PE teacher, I have seen firsthand the impact that sports and physical activity can have on a young person. However, not all kids have access to after-school programs where they can receive benefits like learning healthy behaviors and how to be part of a team.
But we have good news: We’ve expanded our Soccer for Success program to meet kids where they are—in school—so that more kids in underserved communities can benefit.
As you read in our Reflections article above, Wyoming Soccer is planning to implement the Soccer for Success program in 2023 into our schools. We attended the Wyoming Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (WAHPERD) Conference in November and several teachers signed up to receive a free online training from Wyoming Soccer. We are utilizing SOW Soccer grant funds to assist with this project to create grassroots growth in our communities and grow our clubs.
If you have connections within your local school districts, we would love to hear from you and connect with them! Please contact Lisa at wssa@wyomingsoccer.com.

It is time to think about renewing your referee certification for the 2023 year and the State Referee Committee has decided to hold the Recertification Raffle again!!
Starting on December 26th, two winners will be selected through a "SPIN THE WHEEL" styled raffle every evening through December 31st. Everyone who has registered for the 2023 year will be entered into the raffle via the State Referee Committee, offering them a chance at winning a $50.00 Capelli gift certificate!
You will be entered once for each certification that you hold.
You still have time to get added to the drawing by completing your referee recertification in the USSF Learning Center. New certifications will be added daily for the drawing.

NOVEMBER - DANE HILL / DECEMBER - LETTY RUSSELL
Sheridan TOPSoccer player, Dane Hill is in the spotlight for November.
Dane started participating in the Sheridan TOPSoccer program as soon as it started when he was in 8th grade. He is in 9th grade now. He is a dedicated player and enjoys practicing and playing each week during the season.
Dane is an all around athlete and enjoys the social aspects of participating in and learning new sports. In addition to soccer, Dane enjoys swimming and has been doing so independently since the age of two. He was on the junior high swim team. He also participates in bowling through Special Olympics, plays basketball and is looking forward to learning volleyball.
Dane has a lot of interests, and is fascinated by weather, computer animation, and road construction. He loves to sing to Clint Black songs (could not have guessed that by his photo 😊) and enjoys classical music. He has quite the sense of humor, and is often the class clown, reenacting funny movie scenes.
Dane is loyal and loves his friends and pets. He is very social and kind-hearted and enjoys helping others. He often says he likes that he gets to have a "small, medium, and large pet", which includes a black cat, a golden retriever mix, and an English Mastiff. He loves to travel and spends lots of time each summer in Florida and Michigan visiting family.
One of his favorite memories was going to Disneyland and Universal Studios and he would like to go again.
Emma Prior, the Sheridan TOPSoccer Coordinator, says, "Dane always makes every practice and is sometimes joined by his sister, Natalie, who is also a TopSoccer athlete. Dane is always positive. The only thing he enjoys more than socializing and talking to everyone is scoring goals. He goes to Sheridan High School and hopes to be on the Sheridan Broncs some day."

Casper TOPSoccer player, Letty Russell is in the spotlight for December.
Letty has a deep love of soccer and plays with as much gusto as she can muster. She started when she was three, which was about the time she learned to walk. Letty was born with three holes in her heart, one of which was fairly large. She spent the first six months of life focusing on eating, sleeping and growing so it could be fixed. At six months of age, she had open heart surgery. After that Letty grew and learned at much faster rates, but she was slow to sit up, stand, walk and run. Seeing her being able to run, jump, kick and twirl on the field now is such a delight to everyone.
Letty is in kindergarten and is in full inclusion with her typical peers. She loves books and is beginning to read. She knows many, if not all, the sight words that have been taught so far! When she's not busy listening to her teacher, she's busy learning the names of every student, teacher and staff member at the school. She has an affinity for names and rarely forgets!
Letty loves to dance and is in a pre-ballet class. She is getting so good with her balance and grace. And... of course, she loves soccer! She's so excited for TopSoccer to start in January. She asks her parents every day if she has soccer after school!
Letty has such a sweet disposition and always knows when someone needs a hug. Her favorite things are Disney princesses. She loves movies and can practically narrate them word for word. She loves babies and when one is around, no one else stands a chance at getting her attention.
Casper TOPSoccer Coordinator, Stacey Umbach, says, "When Letty comes to Topsoccer she walks around and gives everyone a hug. She is so positive and willing to try anything. Letty does not get down or negative and is willing to grab any of the buddies and do whatever they ask."

We are honored to recognize Dane & Letty as our spotlighted players for the months of November & December. Remember, the Player Spotlight can highlight achievement in any area, whether it's soccer, academics, community, or attitude. All spotlighted players will be recognized at our annual Awards Banquet in March and will be eligible to win our coveted Player of the Year Award! Please share your kids with us! If you would like to learn more about TOPSoccer, please click HERE.
