First 2022 Membership Meeting Attracts Strong Attendance

"Utility Reps Talk Code" was the topic of the Chapter's first Membership Meeting of the year on February 10 at Sierra Gold.


More than 75 members attended to hear the presentation by Doa J. Ross, PE, the deputy general manager of the Southern NV Water Authority/Las Vegas Valley Water District, and Tommy Hunsaker, customer service supervisor at Southwest Gas Corp.


They presented information about their respective organizations that was of interest to local code professionals. Click here for information provided by Southwest Gas Corp.


There is no Membership Meeting in March because members and staff are participating in the EduCode Conference and Expo. The next Membership Meeting is scheduled for April 14. Registration will begin March 21. Please watch your Inbox for the launch of registration.



2022 Board of Directors Installed at Gala Banquet

More than 100 members and special guests, including ICC President Cindy Davis of Virginia, turned out for the gala 2022 Installation and Awards Banquet on January 22 at the Orleans Hotel and Casino Conference Center.


SN-ICC installed the members of the 2022 Board of Directors and presented numerous awards to members for their outstanding service to the Chapter and the code profession over the past two years. The 2021 banquet was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.


The outgoing Immediate Past President James Gerren of Clark County served as the master of ceremonies.


ICC President Davis conducted the swearing-in ceremony and presented board members with gifts from ICC.

Michael Cunningham of the City of Las Vegas - President;


Matthew Brewer of Clark County - 1st Vice President;

Dana MacAllister of Clark County as Secretary/Treasurer;


Arben Dema of the City of Henderson as Immediate Past President.


Director-at- Large Jeff Grove was unable to attend the ceremony.

SN-ICC Proclaims Scholarship Honoring David Goldstein

Outgoing Immediate Past President James Gerren announced the creation of the David L. Goldstein Memorial Scholarship to honor the late board member and longtime Public Outreach Committee chairperson during the Installation and Awards Banquet in January at the Orleans Hotel Conference Center.


Goldstein, a longtime building industry executive and Chapter member, passed away in January 2021.


Members of the Goldstein family, including his wife, Estelle; daughters, Alison and Amy; brother, Jean; and granddaughter, Tabatha, were special guests at the banquet.


The Scholarship Committee, chaired by Michael Gentille of PCNA Group, will handle the logistics of setting up the new scholarship, which will be awarded for the 2023/2024 school year.

Members Recognized with Awards for Service to the Chapter

SN-ICC recognized several members for their outstanding service to the Chapter and the code profession during the Installation and Awards Banquet in January at the Orleans Hotel Conference Center. The awards were presented by Immediate Past President Arben Dema. The recipients are pictured below.

A "Government Member of the Year" award went to President Michael Cunningham from the City of Las Vegas for his outstanding contributions to the Chapter during the COVID pandemic, in particular, implementing the technology to conduct online meetings, classes and the all-virtual 2021 EduCode.

Immediate Past President Arben Dema presented "Government Member of the Year" awards to Danny Tinsman, left, of Clark County, and John Blomquist of the City of Henderson, for their outstanding contributions to setting up the technology for the first all-virtual EduCode in 2021.

Outgoing Immediate Past President James Gerren, right, was honored for his years of service as an officer on the SN-ICC Board of Directors.

Outgoing Director-at-Large Amanda Moss was recognized for her service on the Board of Directors and as the co-chairperson of the Code Development Committee.

City of North Las Vegas Building Official Valarie Evans received a "President's Special Award" for being named the ICC "2020 Gerald H. Jones Code Official of the Year" and for her service as chairperson of the Code Development Committee.

EduCode Director Alan Ellis received a "President's Special Award" for his outstanding leadership to implement an all-virtual EduCode Conference and Expo during the height of the pandemic in 2021.

Former board member Michael Gentille of PCNA Group was recognized for his nearly three years of dedicated work to revamp the Chapter's Scholarship Program.

Members were recognized for their outstanding efforts to ensure the success of the first all-virtual EduCode Conference and Expo in 2021: John Blomquist, Michael Cunningham, Carol Carter, Doug Evans, Ann Gerren, Ron Lynn, Dee O'Reilly, Jerry Stueve, Danny Tinsman.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, President Michael Cunningham presented gifts of appreciation to ICC President Cindy Davis. She received a book, "Las Vegas: Then and Now," featuring photos and history of buildings in metro Las Vegas, and a cellphone charger padfolio.

ICC President Cindy Davis presented gifts from ICC to the Chapter's incoming and outgoing board members following the swearing-in ceremony.

Board Appoints New Director-at-Large


The Board of Directors has appointed Matt Walker to the position of director-at-large on the board for a two-year term.


Walker is director of community and government relations at The Howard Hughes Corp., a major master-developer


He replaces Amanda Moss of the Southern Nevada Home Builders; her term expired December 31.

SN-ICC Ready for Another Successful EduCode Event

EduCode 2022 - the 25th anniversary of the educational conference and expo - begins on Monday!


About 1,000 code professionals from across the country have registered to attend in person at the Orleans Hotel & Casino Conference Center; another 1,500 have signed up for the online classes.


More than 20 exhibitors, including the ICC Bookstore, will fill the registration area.


Networking events are scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, including the popular "Student Appreciation Night" and "Bowling Night."


About 100 Chapter members will volunteer to assist during the event. Pictured above, they received special training February 15 at the Clark County Building Department Presentation Room.


EduCode is hosted annually by SN-ICC, ICC and Southern Nevada Building Officials.
