General Assembly Worship Service

Rev. Molly Housh Gordon

We are all tangled up together in a great web of life that is woven with beauty and hardship, love and loss, thriving and struggle. How do we tend well to the weaving so that all of us are held in care?

Join the in-person watch party held at UUCW! Gather around the big TV in the Sanctuary. There’ll be popcorn!…and the option to stick around for a pizza lunch after the service.

Wondering What to Expect

Over the Summer?

After the service on June 30, I will be taking my holidays and remaining study leave and spending the month of July packing and moving. I expect to be physically leaving Brookfield around July 20.

During that same time, your new minister, Jill Braithwaite, will be wrapping up her work with the congregation in Duluth, and moving here. Her work with UUCW begins in August.

Summer brings changes to our schedules due to staff vacations and study leave. Starting this week through Labor Day, the main office will be open Wednesdays from 9 am to 2 pm. Church communication schedules are also impacted.

Summer Destination Services

Start July 21st!

Once again, UUCW will offer a variety of worship experiences as we get to know some of our closest UU neighbors. We'll make sure to share all the worship details as they are developed.

The Board of Trustees Meeting

Thursday, June 27th at 7 pm

Room UL4 or on Zoom

All are welcome to attend.

Meet One of Our

New Board of Trustees Members

Nick Clark

"There is a lot of new change coming to UUCW and I would like the opportunity to be a part of this change."

Join us for a Church Picnic!

Sunday, July 7th - 11:00 am

Once again, this is not a typical annual church picnic, but a more low-key event.  Bring your own picnic meal, beverages, blanket and/or chairs. There will be desserts to share, grills to use and games to play. Last year we had a world-class Kubb tournament. Will this year be a repeat or will we tend more towards badminton or Spike ball? If you’re interested in helping to coordinate games, please contact Eileen Gleeson. In the event of inclement weather, we’ll move the fun inside.

General Assembly Watch Parties!

As you may have heard, there is big business at General Assembly this year, and the business general sessions are available for viewing for all...and registration for all of GA is not required. We plan to make these sessions available to watch together at UUCW.

Come watch with Rev. Jullan and our delegates as we consider the important proposed changes in our principles and values statements.

UU the Vote

Several people have expressed interest in UUCW being involved in UU the Vote activities. Wisconsin is one of priority states that the UUA is focusing on. Activities can include postcard writing, text/phone banking, partnering with other organizations, voter registration, canvassing, working the polls, education on the issues and more. We can decide on how UUCW is going to participate.

I am planning to schedule sometime at the end of June or early July. Please let Karen Zimmerman know if you are interested in helping.

Citizens’ Climate Lobby

Join members of the Earth Ministry team in participating in Citizens’ Climate Lobby postcard campaign.

We will be writing postcards on Sunday, June 30th after the service to environmental voters. We will be writing a simple message to remind people to vote in the August primary. Postcards, postage, and the simple message will be provided.

For more information, contact Karen Zimmerman.

The Summer Chalice Table

is Waiting for Your Creativity!

You can provide visual interest to viewers in the Sanctuary and online during July or August. Use flowers, branches, or other items that reflect the season/service theme. Contact Sarah Frey or click below for further instructions.

MICAH Congregations get First Access to tickets for the We All Belong Rally for Democracy. Tickets are $5 each.

The Rally is Sunday, July 14, on the eve of the Republican National Convention held in Milwaukee. The purpose is to proclaim MICAH’s values, likely very different from the values that will be offered at the convention. We’ll provide for car-pooling from UUCW, thanks to Joyce Cable! The Rally will feature national speakers: Rev. Al Sharpton, Amanda Tyler, Rev. Bryan Massingale, and Rev. Jim Wallis.

Our Split the Plate Partner

thru July 7th is the Benedict Center

The Benedict Center is dedicated to helping women affected by the criminal justice system find hope and lead safer and healthier lives, while advocating for a system of justice that is fair and treats everyone with dignity and respect.

UUCW Food Pantry

Thank you to everyone who has donated to the Friends for Food Pantry, enriching people's lives through friendship and nourishment. Let's fill the box again by the end of June.

Food Pantry Chair Kathy Randall is seeking pantry recommendations for the July-August collection. Please email Kathy with your ideas.

This Saturday, our delegates will be voting to adopt the Article II changes during the UUA's General Assembly. Click on the image to play the short video illustrating the process of developing Article II. To learn more, read Dave Cicero's recent e-news article, Love at the Center.  If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to any of our General Assembly delegates (Laurie Boddie, Joyce Cable, Karen Zimmerman, Rob Zimmerman).

Rescheduled Twisted Stitchers

The next Twisted Stitchers meeting will be on Saturday June 22 (4th Saturday of the month) instead of June 15 (third Saturday of the month).

Also, we’ll start at 12:00 noon because the General Assembly will have an important vote at 1:30 pm that some members may wish to view. If you can’t come until 1:00, no problem. We’ll still be there!

Motivating Peer Caregivers is a sentiment expressed in the quote

by Blaise Pascal,

"The heart has its reasons,

which reason knows nothing of".

UUCW Caregivers mutually share and support one another, meeting next on June 25th, 1 to 2 pm in UL5. Meetings are regularly scheduled on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays each month.

Sue Swearingen or Mary Ross may be contacted with questions.

Get Dancin' This Summer!

Put on your comfortable shoes and casual attire and join us for an evening of folk dancing and community! Our monthly events welcome adults and children over 10 years old (accompanied by an adult) to experience the dances and music from countries across the globe.

On July 5th at 7 pm, we will mainly do walking dances. Please bring a refillable water bottle. If you have any questions, contact Hank Kulesza

The UUCW Auction

is Coming this Fall!

Put Saturday, November 9th on your calendar! That’s the date of the 2024 UUCW Auction - a great time to have fun and a great opportunity to bid for wonderful auction items.

But first, we have to acquire items for offer, so we’re alerting you to the date. Most of our items come from the UUCW community!

“Making Magic”

“Looking Ahead, Gathering Strength”

The Rev. Julie Stoneberg

The party’s over now. Our shared interim ministry has brought many joys and learnings. As UUCW is on the cusp of a new ministry, let’s prepare ourselves for the journey ahead by renewing our covenant and commitments to one another.

This is Rev. Jullan’s last Sunday in the UUCW pulpit as interim minister.

Our theme for June is the Gift of Renewal. Kaleidoscope Worship Band partners with Music Director Ruben Piirainen to provide inspiring music.
