May Membership Breakfast

During the May Northeast Leadership Forum Breakfast those attending had the opportunity to hear from Brian Dameris (pictured upper left). Brian currently works with the Dallas Mavericks as a post-game analyst as well as having their official podcast. He shared several insights on the Mavericks and their season, including the analytics department of the team that he started.

But even more importantly, Demaris shared with the audience that included our NLF Scholarship recipients how he came to be working for Mark Cuban as one of his initial employees, and how Brian ended up negotiating the Broadcast.com to Yahoo! for $5.7 billion. He also worked with Cuban on his Shark Tank purchases for the first three years of that show. He told the students how he initially went to work for Mark “free”, seeing an opportunity and taking a risk for something he believed in. Demaris encouraged everyone in the room to focus on what you enjoy and want to do, and work to make it happen. And reminded them, that at times, it takes determination, focus and planning. While he was speaking to the students, his message resonated with most of the business leaders in the room.

Following Dameris, the NLF Foundation members had the scholarship recipients (some pictured top right and side) come forward to share their plans following high school and each received a laptop donated by ARCA Continental Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages.  It was a great event and helped us all know that we have a great future ahead of us with these student leaders. Also, thanks to Great Plains Bank, Janice Spooner and Randy McCauley for sponsoring the May breakfast.

We look forward to seeing you at the next NLF Breakfast on August 13 at the Hurst Conference Center!

Chairman’s Notes:

I don’t know about you, but I am shocked that we are almost into the sixth month of 2024 and halfway through my year as the Chair of the NLF. And while we have accomplished a lot, including a great Awards luncheon (thanks to Chelsea Rose) and scholarship distribution (thanks to the NLF Foundation), and creating a new website (thanks to Eli Mercer and his committee), we are now looking towards the last half of the year. Planning has already begun for the Heart of North Texas Conference on Friday, November 8. Soon, the committee will begin meeting to plan what looks to be a very engaging, positive and exciting group of speakers and programs. If you would like to serve on the committee this year, we would love to have you get involved. Feel free to reach out to myself, Kathryn Rotter or Craig Hulse as the co-chairs of this year’s event.

If you have any comments, questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to myself or any of the NLF Board members. We look forward to continuing to work with you and for you in 2024 – One Degree at a Time!

Be Safe & Be Kind (because life's too short to be otherwise!),
