PRODUCT ALERT!
Harken Electric Winch Conversions

Nothing like your first electric winch to make what you already love to do even better. Good news: Harken makes a range of electric winches with geometries and motor sizes to make replacement installation easy. Even better, if you own manual Harken winches, they were likely designed from day one to be electrified when the time is right.

L AST KNEWSLETTER CHALLENGE & WINNER

CHALLENGE:

In honor of the Boat Show and our traveling Freak Show trailer of boat breaks, foils and fumbles, what is the above part? And what likely happened to it?

ANSWER:
This is a bent rod from a diesel engine that got some liquid in the cylinder... looks like you may want to take advantage of the Yanmar special before it goes away!

When an engine is hydro-locked, it means that fuel, or any liquid, has flooded the cylinder - this means that the piston cannot move into the cylinder because the liquid cannot expand/compress to allow it to do so.

WINNER!
CONGRATULATIONS TO MARK STAFFORD! - We look forward to getting you outfitted in one of our 2019 KKMI shirts!

From Mark: "Attached is a November 2017 pic of me on our often used Saint-Jean (1973 Tartan 26) out in Monterey  Bay. Saint-Jean's last bottom job was mid-December 2010 by KKMI Richmond using Trinidad SR anti-fouling paint, and she's had regular cleanings. Hard to argue with longevity, though she's finally just starting to chip."

Here is previous winner, Sue Rosenoff with her KKMI swag

KNEWSLETTER CHALLENGE!

In the notorious movie, Captain Ron, while pouring several cans of oil into the engine, the Captain explains that "...diesel's love their oil like a sailor loves his rum." When Martin Short's character asked "Why is that, Captain Ron?", what was the Captain's response?

Winner will receive your choice of KKMI swag:

KKMI SIGHTINGS

Thank you all for visiting us at the Boat Show. The sun made an appearance and it ended up being a lovely weekend! It was so nice to see you all!

Charlie thinks the KKMI "Little Shop of Horrors" was number one!

And Will gave the popcorn a thumb's up!

Paul was googly eyed over the whole experience!

There's more than one way to work on an engine. The guys at our Sausalito yard helped get this engine out and on its way to repair.

Janis, our Safety, Health, and Environment Manager, along with her husband Ken and some happy crew members, enjoyed a lovely overnight in Benicia on their way o deliver their new boat/home, Iris, to the KKMI Richmond yard.

It wasn't all fun and games, but they're still smiling!
