IWA Teacher Spotlight:

Jennifer Martin

On July 23-27, 2023, Mrs. Jennifer Martin, IWA's STEM Coordinator and mentor of IWA's FIRST Robotics Competition team, was chosen as one of only 24 educators from across the country to participate in the U.S. Air Force/FIRST Leadership Experience at the Patrick Space Force Base in Florida. The Air Force selected this group of 24 teachers and mentors from FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Robotics Competition teams who are helping inspire today’s youth to become the technical leaders of tomorrow.

For the 11th year, the U.S. Air Force offered this unique three-day, four-night leadership program providing FIRST mentors with hands-on leadership training taught by Air Force personnel. Throughout the three-day experience, mentors attended lectures, participated in team-building exercises, and got a behind-the-scenes tour of the Patrick Space Force base.

"As a participant in this leadership experience, I learned that innovation knows no boundaries, teamwork conquers all challenges, and with dedication, we can engineer a brighter future for all. This powerful lesson mirrors what I am working towards in STEM education at IWA: championing student-driven learning and empowering young women to harness their collective potential to shape a world of limitless possibilities," Martin shared.
