CRAFT
Design Workshop: How to create compelling visuals when it’s not usually your job. Friday, July 26, noon ET. Tickets on sale.

Get tickets for our interactive design workshop on creating compelling images on deadline

In our scroll and skim culture, visuals make or break whether a reader engages with your content. But we don’t all have a graphic design professional on staff to help create compelling images on deadline. If you’re a journalist or communication professional looking to build your design skills, get a head start with our beginner course for designing visuals when it’s not usually part of your job.

Beth Francesco, the National Press Club Journalism Institute’s executive director, will share best practices for creating visuals, regardless of your hands-on design experience. We’ll work through specific exercises during the program, so plan to walk away inspired and with at least one design you can use right away.

Tickets are on sale now for this training, which will take place at noon ET on Friday, July 26.

This 90-minute, interactive Zoom workshop will cover:

  • Rules of thumb to guide your decisions on fonts, colors, and images
  • Exercises to help you develop your design thinking
CAREER

Looking for your next journalism job? Try this:

Approach positions inquisitively, not arrogantly. … The most desirable positions (the pro sports beats, the op-ed gig at a major paper, the politics beat at a capital publication) are getting dozens, if not hundreds, of applications from very strong contenders across the country. You don't need to call or email us just to say you're the ‘best’ person for the job. Your work will speak for itself. BUT if you reach out to find out if the position is truly a fit for you or to find out which things make most sense to highlight … this can show a degree of humility and receptiveness to feedback that may endear you to employers in the long-run.”
