[2024 Fall Varsity Preseason Schedule]
From the Head of School
Are you an apprentice?
2024-25 TKCS theme verse: So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6,7
The Hebrew word "talmid" is usually translated as "disciple." Ray Vander Laan says that it simply means "a student of a teacher or philosopher" — not just a learner but a practitioner of an embodied way of life, one who is diligently working to be with and become like their master. Some have said "apprentice" is a more accurate translation than "disciple" as it implies becoming like the master tradesman in every way — attitudes, knowledge, skills and priorities. The key to being an apprentice of Jesus Christ in this verse is to live "in him," much like the apprentice of the ancient world would actually live with his mentor. It is my prayer that the students at King's this year will grow in their apprenticeship to the real master, Jesus Christ.
