Living In Christ
2024-25 TKCS Theme Verse: So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6,7
Each week in August, I will be commenting on this significant verse from Colossians, where believers in Christ are urged to "live in him" and to be "rooted and built up in him." At King's we believe that Christian schooling should speak to the head, heart, and hands. This verse is primarily directed to the heart — to live in Christ. Living in Christ begins with spending time with him. Some Christians hold the perspective that once they have accepted Christ and been saved, they will be welcomed into God's heaven. They believe that since God is loving and forgiving, they can live as they choose as long as they avoid committing "major" sins. Dallas Willard (The Great Commission) says, "The greatest issue facing the world today, with all its heartbreaking needs, is whether or not those who... are identified as 'Christians' will become disciples — students, apprentices, practitioners — of Jesus Christ...." Jesus cares about our getting into heaven, but he is also concerned about getting heaven into his followers. Christian schooling is ultimately a discipleship ministry, but human effort only takes us so far — ultimately it is the work of the Holy Spirit that produces true disciples.
