Integrity Matters
"To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice." – Proverbs 21:3 (NIV)
Character before Career is the tagline of a Christian secondary school in New York, and I love the principle behind it. For that school, and for King's, there is an understanding that the primary purpose of education is not about preparing students to be financially successful. College and career preparation is important here at King's, and we work hard to prepare students to qualify for college admission and scholarships.
Last week the Wall Street Journal came out with their list of 500 top colleges and universities, and the list is quite different from prior years. Why? Because the criteria changed. While graduates job placement and entry level salaries compared to tuition costs have been included in the past, those criteria have become the major ingredient in the ranking. Christian colleges, Bible colleges, and many liberal arts schools that focus on preparing students for ministry, education, or social work are at a serious disadvantage in this system. My criteria in choosing higher education options gives a significant weight to the values being promoted at that college, and I think "character before career" should apply to the college decision making process. Proverbs 21:3 points out that integrity is more important to the Lord than giving money or time.
The faculty and staff of The King's Christian School are fully committed to helping students learn "to do what is right." But the reality is that students do not always choose what is right, and if we are honest, sometimes we as adults don't make the right choice. Growth in maturity comes when teachers and parents confront children about wrong choices and turn those conversations into "teachable moments." Let's partner together, teachers and parents, to help our children learn to do what is right by dealing appropriately with the wrong choices made along the way.

Moms in Prayer Group
Wednesdays | 2–3 p.m. | Elementary Library
Moms, Grandmoms, and Aunts, you are invited to join us as we pray for students and our school using God’s Word, praying that they will be transformed by Christ. We live in a culture that seeks to confuse our kids about who they are and blind them to the truth of God’s Word and His love for them. But we are victorious in God, whose power is unleashed through our prayers!
For more information, or to submit prayer requests, please reach out to the TKCS prayer group through email [tkcsprayergroup@yahoo.com], or call Lisa Arroyo at (609) 238-2771 or Joy Hollows at (609) 330-9152.
