Strengthened in the faith as you were taught
2024-25 TKCS theme verse: So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6,7
Last week I expressed that Christian education at King's includes encouraging the head, heart and hands. The middle phrase of our theme verse — "strengthened in the faith as you were taught" — points to the value of a Christ-centered education. Ephesians 6:4 and Colossians 3:21 express the fundamental reality that teaching and training children is primarily a parent responsibility. Thank you for being a parent who has chosen formal education that reinforces what you are teaching at home. As author Joe Bayley wrote years ago in Christianity Today, he couldn't imagine the Old Testament Israelites sending their children to Canaanite schools. The faculty at King's are blessed to be able to teach from a worldview based on the truth of the Word of God. Your children are blessed to be "strengthened in the faith" at King's, and you as parents are blessed to see them strengthened in the faith. Next week we will think about the challenge of "overflowing with thankfulness."
