Mass with Fr. Vincent

This morning, April 26th, 2024, we celebrated mass with Fr. Vincent. He talked to our students about having a comfortable bedroom of their own, and how God will have a room for us in Heaven.

We would like to thank Mrs. Lee and the Third Grade Class for leading us in prayer and reading the scriptures. A special thanks to our altar student attendants this week and Mr. James LaChance for playing the piano and preparing the students.

Farewell Mr. James LaChance!

After mass, Mr. James LaChance, Director of Music & Liturgy at Blessed Sacrament Church, announced that he is leaving Burlington after 8 years of service! Mr. LaChance worked with our students every time we had a school mass. He also served as the Spanish Music Teacher for our elementary school students and has been leading the church's Catholic education program lately.

We thank you for all the years of service and wish you the best in your next chapter Mr. LaChance! 💙💛

There is a season for everything, a time for every occupation under heaven.

It is with bittersweet sadness to announce that Mrs. Carol Kearney will retire when the school year ends. After twenty-plus years at Blessed Sacrament School, we thank her for her many contributions to the school community. Her gentle spirit and God-centered wisdom has made a difference in the lives of countless children and teachers. We wish Mrs. Kearney the best as she transitions from classroom teacher to full-time BGE (Best Grandmother Ever) and spends time with her retired husband, Scott. Enjoy your time and know that you will always have a home at Blessed Sacrament School. You will be missed! 💙💛

Athletic Banquets

This week, we celebrated the Elementary & Middle School Athletic Banquets. Thank you to all of our coaches and players for a wonderful year of sports. All of our teams had impressive seasons!

A special thanks to our Co-Athletic Directors, Tracy Miller and Derrick Goodman, for all of the time and love they gave our kids this year!

GOLF 2024

Practices will be at Alamance Country Club on Thursdays starting at 4:00pm with the first practice on 2/22/2024.

Practices will likely finish around 6:30pm contingent on daylight and weather. Golfers can be dropped off at the driving range located behind/to the right of the swimming pool at Alamance Country Club.

Per our agreement with Alamance we will have two coaches at all times to support and supervise.

It will be expected that the golfers follow instructions when on the range, putting green or golf courses so we can enjoy this opportunity to utilize ACC facilities.

Participation

We are limited to the number of golfers we can facilitate at Alamance but our sign up seems to align with the 6-8 golfer cap.

BSS will have two successive tee times between 4:00 - 4:30 on Tuesdays or Thursdays – Typically Thursdays.

The practice tee will be available for four players at a time from ½ an hour prior to the first tee time through the start of the second tee time. Access to the putting green/short game area will be based on availability and should be used in groups of 4 players max per station area.

A coach must be with the team during the entirety of the practice time and will be responsible for checking the team in for times and confirming daily activities.

Prayer Requests

Please pray for:

Please remember in your prayers, David, brother of Abby (1st and Lizzie, Class of 2021) for his health.

Please remember in your prayers, Mr. Donald Spear, grandfather of Shannon(6th) and Caroline (3rd), for his health.

Please remember in your prayers, Olga Castillo, aunt of Ms. Asmar, as she is recovering from a stroke.

NC Opportunity Scholarship Updates

*This does not affect families who are renewing the NC Opportunity Scholarship, as you are a priority versus new families applying this upcoming school year, but you must renew by July 1st, 2024. Check your MyPortal for more info.

Last week, we received word from the NCSEAA that the funds for the NC Opportunity Scholarship had been exhausted and only Tier 1 families who applied for the first time this year, will be awarded a scholarship. If your family applied for one of these scholarships and falls on Tier 1, make sure you accept the award by TODAY, April 19th or you will lose the award. Make sure you check your MyPortal account and look in your To Do List.

If you want to know more about Tiers, please see THIS DOCUMENT.

For new families who applied and fall under the Tier 2 category, there might be awards and the NCSEAA will notify you in early May if your family will be getting the award-this is first come, first served. Yes, your family can wait until after you hear from the NCSEAA to sign your re-enrollment agreement with Blessed Sacrament School, but don't delay!

For families who fall under the Tier 3 & Tier 4 categories, there will be no funds for your students in the 2024-2025 school year. Please, mark your calendar to re-apply for the 2025-2026 school year on February 1, 2025, as more fund will be available.

If you are a family who fell in Tier 3 or Tier 2 of the NCSEAA Income Guidelines and you feel that you need extra help to pay for your child's tuition for the upcoming school year, please know that we have extended our deadline to apply for a BSS Scholarship to May 15th. You must submit an application via our FACTS Grant & Aid system.

We have new Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities for the 2023-2024 school year. We would love to help promote your business, while you support our school!

Money raised during the 2022-2023 school year was used for several major and unexpected expenses. We are in the process of replacing our 26-year-old Fire Alarm System at the Main Campus. We also replaced and repaired flooring in several areas of the building. A few rooms also received new paint!

Due to increased enrollment, we purchased 100 new Chromebooks for our students. None of these things would have been possible without the support of our community!
