SVED Response to COVID-19
|
|
Message from SVED
SVED is joining with many others in our community to do our part to help slow the spread of COVID-19. The situation continues to evolve rapidly and what seemed far-fetched just days ago becomes our new reality in the blink of an eye.
First and foremost, SVED is following the guidance from The CDC, South Central Public Health and our local health-care professionals and we encourage everyone to do the same. Secondly, SVED is dedicating its resources to fully focus on our existing business community to provide support and business retention services.
We are currently compiling a list of financial and other resources to make available online. We will also move to more regular email communications with business best practices, asset reallocation demands and supplies to help mitigate the impacts of the virus on business (when possible) and links to new resources as they become available.
Please share your virus response stories and keep us apprised of the impacts to your business in particular. This will help us quantify the impacts and facilitate making Blaine County eligible for state and federal aid.
Initially, we are encouraging every business to develop a business continuity plan and to conduct a three month cash flow forecast to help you understand what type of help to seek and how much.
We are fortunate to live in a such a strong community and we will get through this and we will do it together.
Stay Healthy,
David, Harry and the SVED Board of Directors

SVED is working with our local banks and non-profits to identify and facilitate assistance for businesses and individuals.
Keep in mind response is just ramping up and we expect to be able to provide more information on a continuing basis.
Here is what we know is available right now. We will link to additional sources on our website as we become aware of them.
- Small Business Administration Disaster Assistance, Blaine County is not on the disaster list at this point. However, SVED is working with the State to enable a disaster declaration that will give Blaine County for-profit and nonprofit businesses access these funds. Check with your bank to see if they are an SBA lender.
- WaFd Bank Business Lifeline
- Cox Communications has implemented several changes to support their customers:
- For a limited time, the first month of service for new Connect2Compete (low-cost internet for low-income families with K-12 students) will be free.
- Residential customers in the company’s Starter, Straight-Up Internet, and Connect2Compete packages will be automatically upgraded to speeds of 50 Mbps.
- For the aforementioned tiers, Cox is extending its Cox Complete Care remote desktop support at no charge to residential customers with remote helpdesk and assistance for loading new applications they may need to use during this time, such as online classroom support applications and web conferencing services.
- We have launched a temporary price reduction and speed increase for our Starter internet product, to help seniors and college students;
- We are eliminating data usage overages for a 60-day period to meet the higher bandwidth demands;
- We are supporting the FCC’s Keep America Connected initiative by pledging for the next 60 days to not terminate service to any residential or small business customer because of an inability to pay their bills due to disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic; waive any late fees that any residential or small business customer incurs because of their economic circumstances related to the coronavirus pandemic; and will open Cox WiFi hotspots to help keep the public connected in this time of need. We have over 60 Cox WiFi hotspots throughout the Wood River Valley.
