Read on to learn more about Kristin and all the reasons why she is a fantastic mentor for the next generation of PR professionals. Meet Kristin!
Q: Please tell us about you! Your job, etc.?
A: I am the President of Powerhouse Communications, an award-winning communications firm I founded seven years ago, providing clients with a full suite of integrated marketing programs under one roof including media relations, graphic design, copywriting, social media and influencer campaigns. In addition to being a proud agency owner, I’m also a proud mom to a young son, who keeps me on my toes. Powerhouse has grown significantly over the years and today maintains a portfolio that includes clients in the restaurant, franchise, consumer tech, nonprofit, CPG and health & fitness sectors. As we continue to grow our capabilities, team and client roster, it is a very exciting time to be at Powerhouse!
Q: What are you looking forward to the most in your role as CSUF’s new PRSSA professional adviser?
A: Much of what I have achieved as a professional was shaped during my time as a student. More than anything else, this role as CSUF’s PRSSA professional adviser affords me an opportunity to give back to the same student community I was part of. I’m excited to deliver career insights I believe will go a long way toward setting up CSUF PRSSA members for success even before their college experience ends. Having stood where these students have stood (literally), I’ll advocate for members and help guide them as they prepare for their professional journey. I’m looking forward to my responsibilities as a mentor and I’m honored to play even a small role in the growth of our future PR pros.
Q: What’s your favorite piece of advice for PR professionals?
A: Dolly Parton famously said, “Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.” It’s a quote that perfectly captures my advice for young PR professionals. It's commendable to be hungry and driven. However, a successful communications career should be viewed as a marathon and not a sprint. Since the ride is a long one – filled with ups and downs – it’s necessary for professionals to devote time to themselves. Maintaining balance is critical and enjoying life in ways unrelated to work is a must. Being dedicated to keeping the mind, body and soul in top form will support creativity, strategic thinking, attention to detail and many other professional attributes that anchor success in this field.
